Hi Mr Ebbers and all!
My company needs to translate EDI files from incoming VDA4905 format to fixedlength or csv and fixedlength or csv to outgoing VDA4913. We are searching for the appropriate translation software and found Bots.
We have some questions to you and perhaps the group can help also.
1) Do Bots support the VDA format (VDA is a format from "Verband der Automobilindustrie" in Germany)?
2) Do you (or someone else in this community) have grammar and mapping files (or Plugins) for VDA4905/4913?
3) Do you have experience in using VDA4905/4913 and/or could assist in setting up the translations (eventually with commercial support)?
Best regards G. Kolmer

I have heard of VDA but never seen any examples. From the little I can find online it looks like you could easily handle it as a "fixed" grammar in Bots. Are there any publicly available standard specifications?
It does not use a common set of interchange envelopes
for all messages.
It does not use functional groups.
It uses a positional, non-delimited format.
It uses looping but not composite elements.
It uses a new control number (for the current transmission)
and an old control number (for the previous one). As a result, control
numbers do not need to be sequential.
In some messages, it processes date formats differently
than other standards.
It uses a separate message to identify the communications
protocol. A message is defined by a four-digit number, which does
not appear in the data.
The header record has eight fields: tag, version,
customer, supplier, old transmission number, new transmission number,
transmission date, and date reset input.
Each record begins with a three-byte record ID
and a two-byte version number.
Kind Regards, Mike

Because other translation programs have VDA included, we wondered, if this is the case with Bots or at least if anyone has used VDA with Bots and could post some examples or grammar/mapping files or can give commercial support (e.g. EbbersConsult). We never have used Bots or VDA.
Best regards Guido

AFAIK VDA is for german automotive only and all partners I'm dealing with are going to replace it with Edifact which is more widely accepted. In any case most of them can accept both VDA and Edifact, so if you have never dealed with VDA, tell them you are Edifact compliant and ask them for it Regards Sandro
