I tried it on my car, after cleaning the windshield with windex and wipe. But the TomTom One won't stick at all, not even a little bit. This is a stark contrast to my Garmin mounts, which stick like super glue and is very secure.

Has anyone had a similar problem with the mount and fixed it?I didn't have very good luck with my 720 mount sticking to the TT supplied disc, that I mounted on my dash. I bought a mount that attaches to the dash A/C louvers. It does quite well.

But the TomTom One won't stick at all, not even a little bit. Inspect it for nicks, cuts or debris on the surface.
It wasn't exposed to high heat while not in use, was it? ......so that it might be badly warped?

I've had to hassle with my mount as well this winter. I found that when both the windshield and the suction cup are cold then suction is almost impossible. I've had better luck after warming the windshield (defroster) and the suction cup (heater).

seeing as how it's against the law to suction cup anything to a windshield out here in California. I thought it was legal now in California to mount your GPS to the windshield, as long as it is in a certain area in the corner?

Worked ever since. No problems. Maybe the suction cup was coated with a light layer of "vegaline" or something like it to keep the rubber cup from drying out, and also which keeps it from working properly. It's the same goop they put on new car paint to protect the finish prior to shipping it.

I had the same problem with the mount that came with my GO 930. I didn't really like having it on my windscreen anyway, so I purchased the TomTom gooseneck and a Nav-Mat (like a bean bag) mount to place on my dash. I like that option better because it does not leave any tale-tale marks on the windscreen (letting would-be GPS thieves know you have one). It also gives me more flexibility about where I can put the GPS. I only use that option for long distance trips. For traveling around town, my wife made me a beanbag that I place in the cupholder and set my GO 930 on it. It keeps it in place & I can easily see it out of the corner of my eye.

Is it convenient to stick in a briefcase? I fly and rent, and bring my GPS with.I travel frequently also. I disconnect the gooseneck from the Navmat then place both of them along with the GPS in my laptop bag.

What I don't like about TomTom is that they sell an expensive G930 GPS unit and they provide a CHEAP friction mount that's too short (i.e. too low) to work effectively with a bean bag. Why can't TomTom supply a similar friction mount like Garmin does which has a lever that you can pump several times to expel any trapped air and then push down to provide a really good vacuum suction? TomTom's cheap friction mount is 1" too short to work well with a bean bag and its friction mount must be pushed extremely hard on the bean bag base and rotated a few times before it will stick and then about 30 minutes later, it becomes loose and flies off the bean bag when your car takes a sharp turn! LOL!

I've owned a TomTom and had my windshield smashed for it. But before that day, I also had many problems mounting mine. I think all the TomToms nowadays come with the threaded twist-knob suction. I don't really like them either. The garmin ones work slightly better, but still fall off.

I find the problem is that if both the suction and glass aren't perfectly clean and there is room for air to escape, it will fall off almost always eventually.
I can't mount to my dashboard, as it has little cracks in the finish that will not allow suction.

From my own experience, when i apply the suction cups (both garmin or tomtom) onto the back of the stickers on my windshield, they actually provide better suction than the windshield itself. Why? I don't know, but it has been working for me (Also doesn't leave circle marks on the glass!).

I've never had any issues with my Garmin mount. A few weeks ago I had an accident, a guy blew a red light & hit me in the front part of my driver side door. I had my top down & the car had to be towed but my Garmin & mount stuck to the windshield like glue. I, of course, took it off before the car was taken away.
