The huge investments governments made in swine flu pandemic planning might not
have been justified, an Ontario health official said Thursday.
“It’s really not causing — and is not going to cause and
nowhere has caused — significant levels of illness or death,” said
Dr. Richard Schabas, Ontario’s former chief medical officer of health.
“But governments moved ahead regardless. They ramped up their response,
spent a huge amount of money on vaccines and other things. I’m not sure
the $1.5 billion includes the cost of new ventilators, the cost of Tamiflu
stockpiles … the huge investment that’s been put into planning for
what has ultimately turned out to be, from a pandemic perspective, a
dud.”

company many say is responsible for the h1n1 swine flu pandemic. Back 2005
Barack Obama bought $50,000 worth of stock in two companies.
Right after he bought the shares also in 2005 Barack Obama (still a senator at
that time) introduced the first comprehensive bill to address the threat of

Then it makes it even more interesting that over $60 million dollars was
awarded for a vaccine against the bird flu (2007) that at the time did not
mutate till afterwards.

OTTAWA – A batch of swine flu vaccine is being pulled back for
investigation after it appeared to cause higher rates of severe allergic
reactions than other lots.
GlaxoSmithKline Inc., which is producing the Canadian order of H1N1 influenza
vaccine at its plant in Ste-Foy, Que., said it asked provincial and territorial
health authorities Wednesday to stop using doses from a specific lot shipment
distributed late last month.
"(GlaxoSmithKline) is taking this cautionary action because (the Public
Health Agency of Canada) has received a higher than expected number of reports
of anaphylaxis in this lot number compared to other lots," company
spokeswoman Megan Spoore said in a statement. "On an ongoing basis
(GlaxoSmithKline) is working with Health Canada to ensure that each vaccine lot
released to the provinces and territories consistently meets quality and safety
standards."
The batch under investigation by the federal government and GlaxoSmithKline
bears the lot number A80CA007A brand name Arepanrix, which is the version that
contains adjuvant, a chemical additive that stretches supply and boosts
immunity.
Manitoba health officials say they have noticed severe allergic reactions from
the batch in question at a rate of one in 20,000, which is much higher than the
normal rate of one in 100,000.
A spokesman for the Ontario health ministry said 1,500 doses of this vaccine
were distributed to Ontario and sent to two public health units: Perth Health
Unit and Renfrew Health Unit.
"This vaccine was not administered to any persons and is being withheld
until the analysis is complete," David Jensen wrote in an email Friday.
Meanwhile, federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced during Question
Period in the House of Commons Friday that provinces and territories can expect
to receive 4.8 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine by the end of next week.
Ontario is expected to receive 1.86 million of those doses.
That would bring the total number of doses shipped across the country by Nov.
29 to 15.3 million.
The Public Health Agency of Canada has released its first weekly surveillance
report for the H1N1 influenza pandemic vaccine since the immunization campaign
began three weeks ago and the data show that from Oct. 21 to Nov. 7 –
when 6.6 million doses had been shipped across the country – only 36
people experienced serious adverse events including life-threatening allergic
reactions called anaphylaxis and febrile convulsions brought on by high fever.
That number includes one death from anaphylaxis that is currently being
investigated and which a spokeswoman for the Quebec health ministry has
confirmed was an octogenarian who died in that province two weeks ago.
"With any vaccination campaign, we expect to see some cases of serious
adverse events," Dr. David Butler-Jones, Canada's chief public health
officer, said at a news conference Tuesday.
"They are very rare, but they are part of all mass vaccination campaigns
and we expect to see a small number of them."
The rate of serious adverse events is so far 0.54 per 100,000 doses
distributed, which Butler-Jones noted is less than what is generally expected
for the seasonal flu vaccine.
An additional 598 milder adverse reactions were reported during the same time
period. The majority of those involved nausea, dizziness, headache, fever,
vomiting and swelling or soreness at the site of the injection.
There were also several reports of allergic reactions with a range of symptoms,
from hives and skin rashes to tingling lips or tongue and difficulty breathing.
Most of those occurred within minutes after people received their shot in the
arm and staff at the flu clinics treated them right away.

GENEVA — An unusual number of severe allergic reactions to swine flu
vaccinations have been recorded in Canada, where a batch of the vaccine from
GlaxoSmithKline has been recalled, the WHO said on Tuesday.
“An unusual number of severe allergies to the vaccine have been detected
in Canada,” World Health Organization spokesman Thomas Abraham told AFP.
“The Canadian authorities are conducting the appropriate investigations
on the vaccines” and “recalled a batch of vaccine from GSK.”
“We need to understand what happened in Canada,” he added.
Mr. Abraham said, however, that the WHO had not changed its recommendations
regarding swine flu vaccines.
Last week, the WHO said checks on many of the 30 deaths recorded following mass
pandemic flu vaccinations had so far ruled out a direct link to the vaccines.
The fatalities made up a minute fraction of at least 65 million doses of swine
flu vaccines which have been administered, said the WHO, citing data from 16
countries.
For every 10,000 doses of vaccines administered, only one report of adverse
effect had been logged.
Of every 100 reports of adverse effects, five are serious cases such as death,
according to the WHO.

Often Have Conflicts, Report Says
WASHINGTON — A new report finds that the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention did a poor job of screening medical experts for financial conflicts
when it hired them to advise the agency on vaccine safety, officials said
Thursday.
Most of the experts who served on advisory panels in 2007 to evaluate vaccines
for flu and cervical cancer had potential conflicts that were never resolved,
the report said. Some were legally barred from considering the issues but did
so anyway.
In the report, expected to be released Friday, Daniel R. Levinson, the
inspector general of the Department of Health and Human Services, found that
the centers failed nearly every time to ensure that the experts adequately
filled out forms confirming they were not being paid by companies with an interest
in their decisions.
The report found that 64 percent of the advisers had potential conflicts of
interest that were never identified or were left unresolved by the centers.
Thirteen percent failed to have an appropriate conflicts form on file at the agency
at all, which should have barred their participation in the meetings entirely,
Mr. Levinson found. And 3 percent voted on matters that ethics officers had
already barred them from considering.
The inspector general recommended that the centers do a far better job of
screening. In a reply, the agency’s new director, Dr. Thomas R. Frieden,
agreed.
“Since the period covered in this review, C.D.C. has strengthened the
financial disclosures and conflict-of-interest process by instituting improved
business processes and realigning responsibilities and oversight,” Dr.
Frieden wrote.
As numerous medicines have been pulled from the market in recent years, worries
have grown that experts may be recommending medical products — even ones
they know to be unsafe — in part because manufacturers are paying them.
As a result, government agencies, medical societies and medical journals have
become increasingly insistent that experts disclose potential conflicts. And
while the experts invariably insist that they have done so, government audits
routinely find large gaps between these disclosures and the experts’
actual income from consulting.
Congress tightened the rules on outside consulting after similar conflicts were
found among members of advisory panels to the Food and Drug Administration. But
little attention has been paid to the potential conflicts of advisers to the
C.D.C., even though that agency’s committees have significant influence
over what vaccines are sold in the United States, what tests are performed to
detect cancer and how coal miners are protected.
Most of the advisers identified by Mr. Levinson had either a job or a grant
from a company or other entity whose interests were affected by the
committees’ discussions, and a considerable number also owned stock in
such companies, the report said.
Representative Rosa DeLauro, a Connecticut Democrat who said she had long been
a supporter of the C.D.C., said: “That is why I am so concerned about
this report issued by the inspector general exposing serious ethics violations
within the C.D.C. All members of the federal advisory committees, whose
recommendations direct federal policy, should be without conflict of
interest.”

“revolving door” through which corporations and government agencies
frequently exchange key employees. That reality was driven home in a huge way
today when news broke that Dr. Julie Gerberding, who headed the Center for
Disease Control (CDC) from 2002 through 2009, landed a top job with Merck, one

How convenient. That means the former head of the CDC was very likely
cultivating a relationship with Merck all these years, and now comes the big

surplus swine flu vaccine
France is selling off millions of surplus swine flu vaccine doses to other
countries, officials say.
They say the move was decided after health authorities found they had more than
enough to deal with the outbreak.

every French person - and started vaccinating in October.
Only about five million people are recorded as having been vaccinated in France
so far, AFP reports.

The CDC is intentionally not tracking how many of the dead were previously
vaccinated. They want you (and mainstream media journalists) to mistakenly
believe that ZERO deaths occurred in those who were vaccinated. But this is
blatantly false. Being vaccinated against H1N1 swine flu offers absolutely no
reduction in mortality from swine flu infections.
And that means roughly 20% of the 11,160 Americans who died from the swine flu
were probably already vaccinated against swine flu. That comes to around 2,200
deaths in people who were vaccinated!
