So, we were close to getting a uni crew together for this event last year but it didn't work out (I think, unless it did?)  The parade organizer was very excited about having us.  It's a holiday weekend, so personally I'm unlikely to commit anytime soon, but for those in town it would be a fun way to spend a few hours on a Sunday, no?  We would be riding around as part of the parade doing whatever.  For me, that means riding around.  For some, that means impressive tricks.  Steve had the idea of some kind of trials-y thing on wheels that someone could move forward, riders could play on, then someone could move it forward again.   (Parades are slow, it could work).

Plus, come on, don't you want to be able to say that you once collaborated with the "honk committee?"

Thoughts?

And Cliff, when are you going to Lynn tomorrow?  I could make an early AM or 4 PM.

Subject: Join us in the Honk Parade, October 11!

Dear Friends,
This is a mass email blast to thank your for your participation in last year's Honk! Festival Parade, and to invite you to participate in this year's parade.  We are doing the Honk! Festival again this fall, on October 9-11, at Davis Square and environs, and we are fully expecting it to be as exciting as it was last year.   (For images of last year's festival, including the parade, see www.honkfest.org.)
Some exciting aspects planned for this year's Honk! Festival include:
  - Friday afternoon and evening honking by guest bands and local host bands, traveling by MBTA to East Cambridge, East Boston, Boston Common, and other communities in the metropolitan area.
  - Guest artists from Rome (Titubanda) and New Orleans (the Pinettes, an all-woman brass band).
  - A Sunday night concert with as many bands as possible, in the Somerville Theater on Davis Square.
AND...
  - The Honk! Parade: Reclaim the Streets for Horns, Bikes, and Feet, a giant processional performance that will take place Sunday, October 11 from noon to 2 p.m., starting at Davis Square in Somerville and ending at Harvard Square.

Can you and your organization join us this year?  We would love to have your participation!  It would be great if you could
1. Let me know if you and/or your group are interested and available to help.
2. Help us get the word out to others:  because we need
   a) individuals to help with banners, giant puppets, signs, marshalling, etc.; and
   b) would welcome the participation of other community groups, clubs, gangs, schools, etc. who might like to create cheap and fantastic big moving street images with us.
3. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

We are planning to have an organizational and brainstorming meeting about the Honk Parade the first week in September, somewhere near Davis Square, so we can share ideas about how to develop our abilities in making fantastic, glamorous, joyous, thought-provoking, exciting, entertaining, artistically compelling, and socially and politically relevant parading art to complement the sounds of the 25+ brass bands from around the U.S. and world who will join us.  I will let you know when and where this meeting is happening when we finalize the details.

Thanks for your attention!  Have a great summer, and if you can, please let me know what your plans are for October 11!  I look forward to seeing you in the Honk! Parade

Best wishes,

John Bell
for the Honk Committee

By the way, the "honk" is referring to reclaming our streets from the
otherwise total domination of the automobile, not to clowns. In case
anyone is sensitive about association with a circus.
