Hi there,

My name is Alvin Wang. I just found your post and think it is interesting. I am seasoned investment banker who worked in NYC and Hong Kong before relocating to Shanghai, China, foucsing on M&A.

I went to your website but barely find any host info. if possbile, would you please let me know mroe about your website including your history, current stakeholders and background of each associated partner, operation strategy or business model. dont have to be formal but just shed a little light so that I know who you are and what you do.

Thanks.

Alvin

Hi Zhuo,

Thanks for your interest 1st.

Our team has 2 ppl now, me and another partner responding for development. We both have 10+ years SW experience.
We put our money into this project 2 years ago.

The reason for this site was to collect daily info for chinese in US,
E.g. car repair, doctor etc.
Trying to make our site douban style, chinese in overseas can join groups
they like. Old forum style site is not as convenient as group style.

Also some groups can bring in business opportunity, e.g. kids education, farming, home improvement, investment etc. So as to charge membership fees for ADs in these groups.

Unfortunately my partner and i are engineer style, don't know how to make sales to work yet. But chinese in US definitely need a better website than wenxuecity.com.

This is where we are now.
Your suggestion is welcome.
Thanks !

HI Ning, -

Thanks for your reply and I am sorry for the delayed reply, if any, as I was involved in extensive traveling for the past few days.

I have no doubt about your guys experience in SW development as most brilliant Chinese students and professionals in the States are. The content on your web are rich and attractive and most of them are handy. I think you guys definitely have worked really hard and done a reasonably good job. The existing being for the web as it is now (stagnant) i believe is primarily because of no particular attraction distinguished you from other similar websites. I do feel that the place you have developed are very broad, and I might be able to do many things on there, in the meanwhile, I am not determined to rely on them heavily whenever I have certain immediate errand needs. Just in the standpoint of an objective observer, if i want to rent and/or lease an apartment, I would think of craigslist as I can understand and speak decent English, or I would think of mitbbs or even wenxuecity or 6park to a lesser extent. So i think you guys do need to drive this thing into something particular and more attractive contrast to something big and wide, and then distribute the users into other line options held on there.

For the situation of wenxuecity, while I am not sure when it was established, it does provide something particularly striking decades ago when many Chinese people(students) went abroad and had unleashed chances to access many news content censored in mainland China. Even 10 years ago when I was in the States, I feel so motivated to visit such websites to enjoy the pleasure. Plus there is not as many website options as we have today from 10 years ago. Via the chance to surf on the censored news contents, I would visit many forums including stock discussion, politics, military etc.

So basically my suggestions to think it twice strategically and directionally, something don’t have to be broad and wide but should be impressive and distinguished. From a standpoint of a potential investor, I would not think of any alliance even any buyout unless the situation detailed above got properly addressed.

I will be more than happy to discuss this any further should you have any interest, and hope my 2 cents could be helpful for your business.

Regards,

Alvin
