General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer. We're looking for an individual who is passionate about innovation and developing cutting-edge products that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

General Dynamics’ Senior User Experience (UX) Designer is here to ensure GDMS products are designed for optimized user performance and safety. In this role you will provide product design and human factors & usability responsibilities for new product development and contribute to usability improvements for current products.You will also work closely with teammates in User Experience and Engineering to understand business requirements and drive a user-centered design process that includes research activities and iterative prototype design.

THE WORK
        • You consider yourself a user advocate
        • You have experience creating, directing and implementing industrial design and user interface design for products from concept to manufacturing production.
        • You enjoy developing semi-realistic illustrations, concept sketches, product renderings, and technical drawings.
        • You are able to independently design physical hardware products and systems based on established design principles and in accordance with design strategy, practices, and guidelines.
        • You are able to translate UX recommendations and data-driven decisions for feature/function concepts into visual designs such as wireframes and prototypes
        • You are excited by the challenge of making great tools for users

THE PROCESS
        • You are comfortable brainstorming on the fly at the white-board
        • You incorporate feedback from all key stakeholders and welcome ideas from every discipline
        • You involve the team in your thinking early and often, or better yet, you do much of your thinking collaboratively
        • You can design high-fidelity mock-ups, build and maintain style guides, and support teams during the development cycle
        • You’re comfortable preparing and delivering compelling presentations of findings and recommendations for improvements to stakeholders at all levels
        • You can clearly convey your ideas, and you stay involved and iterate as development progresses
        • You have a scientific, fact-based approach; you filter out noise in order to target high-impact decisions
        • You’re a systems thinker who can manage both local and global priorities
        • You see a problem and you roll up your sleeves, start fixing it, whether or not it’s in your traditional wheelhouse
        • You can manage difficult discussions with tact and diplomacy
        • You both learn from and teach those around you with regularity
        • You look for ways to continuously improve your own process as well as that of the teams you work on

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
        • A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a design research-related field: interaction, industrial or product design, psychology, human factors or a related field or the equivalent experience
        • Minimum of 8 years of experience designing, executing, and reporting
        • Good working knowledge of 2-D and 3-D CAD tools and software packages for product design.
        • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
        • Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g. Axure, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, 3DStudioMax, Seimens Jack, PTC Creo/Solidworks
        • A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design
        • Department of Defense security clearance is preferred at time of hire, but not required

Required:
Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

Clearance Requirement:
Department of Defense Top Secret Security Clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
