Last week, the National Traffic Safety Board released a major study on bike safety. There have been lots of comments online about their recommendation that helmet use be required, but there is more in the report. This NTSB press release has links to the full report and various summaries.

From a bike it's easy to see inside cars, and I see people driving and using their phones every ride. I'm surprised that distracted driving wasn't mentioned in this summary as it seems to be a real problem. No matter how conspicuous I make myself with reflective clothes, drivers need to have their eyes consistently aimed outside their car for my dazzle jacket and array of lighting will start to make me safer. (Full disclosure: I haven't read the whole report and hope to get to it in the next couple days, thanks for sharing).
