When: Tuesday, October 7, 1:00 PM Workshop 3:00 PM Artist Talk, Northeastern University Campus, Center For Design (102 Ryder Hall)
Bart Kuipers is a poet whose current project imagines "poetry for aliens" using chemistry as a possible universal language for exoplanetary communication. For more about his work, please see the registration form.
Kuiper's collaborator, Monica Storss, is co-facilitating. Her project, The Augmented Reality Poetry Machine, was sent to Earth's moon in 2021 as part of a larger payload delivery with Astrobotic. She works with poetics and emergent technology, and has served as a thought partner to SETI, JPL, UNM Taos, and the STEMArts Lab on the subject of off-world arts and humanities.
The workshop is a generative workshop - participants will engage in creative writing exercises as a form of inquiry. Participants will reimagine exoplanetary poetics, communication, and creativity. No prior STEM or creative practice is required, but experience with graduate-level generative workshops is strongly suggested.
Open to all with pre-registration.
