Hello Puppet Pals!
Happy New Year! We are so thrilled to be bringing back two classic virtual workshops this Winter - For those new to puppetry and the well seasoned! If you are interested, please register at the links below.
First, Intro to Puppetry Arts with former PST Resident Artist Brad Shur of Paper Heart Puppets! Tuesdays Jan 21 - Feb 11 2025 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST DEADLINE TO REGISTER TODAY!
Do you wish you knew more about puppetry? Been wanting to dip your toes into puppet making? This is the class for you!
Each class will kick off with a short performance video for inspiration, and then jump into hands-on activities in puppet making and manipulation — all designed around the limited supplies available at home. In four sessions, we'll explore a range of puppetry styles and world traditions, including shadow puppetry, object puppetry, moving-mouth puppets, and even marionettes. Students will leave the class with a new understanding of some of the key styles of puppetry from around the world, plus some new puppetry skills.
Then, right in time for grant writing season, we are offering
Business Writing for Puppeteers: Virtual Workshop with PST Artistic Director Emerita Roxanna Myhrum! Jan 28 (Tue) 2025 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST
Ever felt stuck when trying to describe your creative work for a grant application, pitch, or promotion? You're not alone. This fun and interactive workshop will guide participants through real-life writing scenarios and offer helpful advice for crafting accurate, engaging descriptions of projects (both existing and yet-to-be made). Get pro tips from Roxanna “Roxie” Myhrum’s extensive experience reading and writing puppetry prose, and gain confidence in clearly communicating your vision.
Participants from all creative disciplines are welcome, though examples will be drawn primarily from the field of contemporary puppet theater with a focus on grant writing and marketing applications.
This workshop is scheduled in advance of the March 4th deadline for the Jim Henson Foundation Artist Grant and is a great opportunity to get feedback on your grant application.
See you on the stage!
