Stuff around town

Special Notice: Bluesy Tuesy will not be at the Democracy Center on September 1st or September 8th due to building maintenance. September 1st will be canceled; September 8th may be canceled as well, but if you have an idea for an awesome outdoor dance or other venue for that night, let us know. We’ll spread updated info by word of mouth, the Facebook group, and possibly on our web page, or you can write in...@bluesytuesy.com to ask/give ideas.

Dirty Water Lindy and Blues

Boston, MA - Sept. 24-27, 2015

4 nights of dances, 3 spectacular bands, 1 late night, an extended Saturday night showcasing 2 bands, an apple picking trip, a clam shack visit, and a dance on the Harbor. You don't want to miss this exciting third year of amazing music, dancing, spirit, and friends!

September at Bluesy Tuesy - Rhythms in blues

with Julie Brown

This month will be all about the rhythm! We'll be getting down with some body-movin' jukin' moves, and we'll add on cool rhythms to shake up our style too.

September at Blues Union - Go With the Flow

with Ruth & Mike

Ruth and Mike (and Julie) are back this month with another new set of flow classes, emphasizing vocabulary and technique. Each week we'll teach you a different set of movements that flow together well, giving different tips to leads and follows as you make the movements your own.
Week 1: Hips
Week 2: Solo with Julie
Week 3: Ballroomin' (Brand-new)

**If you’ve taken 6 months or more of blues classes at Blues Union or Bluesy Tuesy, you can take the intermediate classes at Blues Union. Alternately, you can do a blues interview with Jenn or Julie at the Blues Clinic.

Private Lesson Sale - Get Back to Learning!
Ruth and Mike are offering a private lesson sale in the limited times they are available during the month of September- an hour lesson with one of them for $40 (normally $80)! Limit one per person (can take one lesson from Ruth and one from Mike), must come to us. Message ruthandm...@gmail.com to schedule!

Living Room Workshops:
Come join Ruth for this one-day intensive workshop. The class is limited to 8 people, so there will be lots of individual attention and a chance for your specific questions to be answered. Please bring a water bottle and wear clothing that you can wear comfortably on the floor. (Yoga pants or athletic shorts are good choices.) Please also bring snacks. I will have tea for you. :)
Sliding Scale $40-$80 (If this is still a problem for you financially, please message me.)
Saturday, September 19, 11am-3:30pm

Class 1: Body Care
Using Franklin Method, pressure points, and other modalities we will get more in touch with our bodies, making them feel better. As dancers, the more in touch with your own body you are, the easier it is to move the way you want to.

Class 2: Dance from the Inside
Find ways to make your movement have more depth, looking more complete. We will dance both in partnership and solo.

Class 3: What is the Point?
We will strip down our dancing to only intentional movements, building it back up so that movements are more highlighted and musical.

Blues Union Raffle!

At the September Blues Clinic, we’ll be raffling off a cool “dancer care package”! For every class you attend in September, you get one ticket in the raffle (so attend more classes to increase your chance of winning)!

Earn free dances while spreading the love of blues!

When you dance at a blues bar, music event, or other blues bomb (or if you teach at a local college), bring some blues ambassador business cards to hand out! If people come to dances for their first time with your card, you get in that night for free! Talk to Andrew at Bluesy Tuesy or Julie Brown or Jenn Martinez at Blues Union to get yourself some cards.

Live music where you can go dance!

Traveling for Dance

Want a learning- and/or competition-focused event?

These events usually have multiple tracks or levels of classes during the day. At night, there’ll be tons of dancing and maybe one or more competitions or performances.

Hart and Soul

Hart & Soul Weekend is a Motown and Soul dance weekend focused on blending quality instruction and music while showcasing the cultural assets of the Hartford area. Teachers include Javier Johnson, Mike Legenthal, and Julie Brown. Saturday night features killer soul, funk, & Motown band, West End Blend.

Northeast Firestone Recess

Camp Firestone, Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania - September 24–27

In its second year on the East Coast, this Recess will be set amid 4200+ acres of hardwood forest, waterfalls, and mountainsides. Recess is a co-created event and home to fusion partner dancing, camping (w/some beds available), dance instruction, a wide array of skillshares, local food, and dancing till dawn. We think at least ten dancers will be heading down from Boston.
