Stuff around town
July at Bluesy Tuesy - Birth of Blues: Dancing from the Roots
with Jan Marie & guest appearance by Rachel Stirling(Portland, OR)
Come learn blues dancing the way it was first taught: by experiencing it. Join us as we explore African vernacular movements in a community setting, initiating traditional "ring shouts" and "call & response" dancing to bring the original improvisation back into this classic social dance form. This series will foreshadow Jan Marie's interactive piece at FIGMENT entitled "Birth of Blues." Find out more: http://birthofblues.tumblr.com
July at Blues Union - Styling Sampler!
with Jenn, Martinez, Julie Brown, & Rachel Stirling (Portland, OR)
You know how to create space as a leader and use space as a follower,...but what do you *do* with that space when you have it? This series will focus on a different area of the body each week, giving you moves & movements to do solo or as a styling in partnered (“Styling” includes movements that leaders do that they are not leading. e.g. When a follower is doing a styling during a turn, the leader can do a separate styling).
July 3 - June’s Blues Clinic
July 10 - Jenn Martinez - Feet, knees, & leg stylings
July 17 - Julie Brown - Arm & shoulder stylings
