This week (first week): Learn how to make a close embrace position feel extra comfy and not-at-all creepy, for even more delicious dances to slow (drag) blues music. Plus: leaders' tips on transitioning to this position, followers' signals that they're comfy/uncomfy, and more!
November at Blues Union -
PTED (Posture Tone Energy Direction) or "How to lead and follow all the things!"
with Mike Legenthal & Forrest Rogers-Marcovitz
PTED--a means of describing partnered dance connection, originally proposed by Joe Demers--is a way to use your body to have a dynamic, responsive, and versatile connection. The days of "too light" or "too heavy" will soon be over. Best of all, it's useful not just in blues, but for lindy, balboa--all the things. All the things!
Here is Joe’s original paper on PTED, if you are interested in reading more about it: http://www.joeandnelle.com/assets/frame_matching_and_pted_by_joe_demers.pdf
*If you’ve taken 6 months or more of blues classes at Blues Union or Bluesy Tuesy, you can take the intermediate classes at Blues Union. Alternately, you can do a blues interview with Jenn or Julie at the Blues Clinic.
Register now & get the month’s Blues Clinic for free! http://bluesunionboston.com/classes/register-for-classes/
November 19 at the MIT Lindy Hop Society -
Blues and Balboa Lesson - A one-shot lesson taught by Ken covering the basics of both blues dance and balboa, showing how and where the two dances are similar. 7:30 pm, MIT Building 36 (50 Vassar St., Cambridge), room 112. The lesson will be followed at 9 pm by the normal swing dance, with perhaps a sprinkle of blues music thrown in. Free.
Help spread the love of blues, while earning free dances!
When you dance at a blues bar, music event, or other blues bomb (or if you teach at a local college), bring some blues business cards to hand out! If people come to dances with your card, you get in that night for free! Talk to Julie Brown or Jenn Martinez at Blues Union to get yourself some cards.
