Hi friends,

We will be holding our fall 2024 BAWCA virtual meeting on Monday 10/28 at 2pm. Here’s the link: https://suffolk.zoom.us/j/95897397923

The topic for our meeting will be “Uses of Generative AI in the Writing Center.” In this session, we’d like to move past the conversations around academic integrity that dominated for the first year or so after ChatGPT came out. Instead, this discussion will focus on productive and ethical ways that generative AI tools can act as a an assistant to tutors, writers, and us ourselves as writing center administrators.

Here's a reading to help us get the conversation started: Deans, Praver, and Solod, “AI in the Writing Center: Small Steps and Scenarios”. I find most interesting the section on “Scenarios in the Center.” (The earlier parts of the blog post may seem a bit “old hat” to those of you who have been working with GAI for a while now.)

Best,

Jamie
