(I hope this message is ok, I figure there would be a lot of overlap from BOSS and Code For Birmingham)
On Wednesday, July 23rd at 6pm, the Code For Birmingham Group will meet at Innovation Depot at 6pm.
Code for Birmingham is a brigade of the national organization, Code for America. We are a tech nonprofit that takes the open source philosophy off of the internet and into the realm of civic engagement. Despite the name, the organization is not simply geared towards writing code. Practically anyone with an aspiration for civic engagement will find a niche within the organization. While most of our work centers around developing web and mobile apps, it is not necessarily limited to that. In addition, the reach of these projects is far, and programming skills is by no means a requirement. Our model of community service is all about efficiency. We make it easier for community to participate in government, for government to cater to the needs of its citizens, and for nonprofits to reach their goals.
As mentioned, the needs of the group are very open to a range of skillsets. On a more specific level, programmers, designers, social butterflies, social media gurus, organizers, planners, leaders and politically savvy individuals are high in demand. The more the merrier.
