I used the old dbase III+ and dbase V for years. Now, I am going to have to
move up to Visual dBase. My question is this. Will the new dBase allow me to
do arrays (much like Clipper) in my new apps?

Also, where is the best place to buy Visual dBase, pricewise, I mean.

Thanks for your help

VdB has 1D arrays, multiD arrays, associative arrays, and sparse arrays, all
implemented as objects from which you can derive custom classes. I doubt the
syntax is just like Clipper <smile>.

If I may advice you, dont buy Vdbase. It is horrable.
When the resource is a little long you regulary get the massage "Visual
Dbase has encounttered an internal error" When you save your work you have
the risc that all your
work is gone. Nothing is left. Null!!
3/4 of my programming time I spend on dbasebugs.
I have Visual Dbase 7.01.
We are rewriting all my work (3 years work!) in Visual Basic.
Sofar I know Clipper is not visual .

Visual dBase Version 7.01 is an unstable product put out BEFORE
Borland sold the product to dBase Inc.
Version 7.5 is much more stable (although not bug free) and its
successor, dBase 2K has lots of new added functionality and hundreds of
bug fixes to the 7.5 code.
In addition, dBase Inc. has newsgroups designed to help with
questions about code and errors and workarounds for bugs with
contributors around the world.
I would not give up on your dBase code yet. Check the company's web
site at http://www.dbase.com
The newsgroup server is news.dbase2000.com

Visual dBase handles arrays similar to Clipper, but it does have
shortcomings in this area. In Clipper you could "browse" an array.
This is not possible in dBase. there is also no ASCAN() function, but
you can search, add, replace, etc with multi-dimensional arrays.

Check their web site for a list of distributors around the world.

I wrote, Vdbase 7.1 horrable.
I have been in descussion with the new developpers of vdb2K
It has been a havy discussion but now I think they are on the good way.
I think the problems there were , is depend on Borland!
The lit sink her clients.
The suppliers of vdb2K offered me a month of trial with dbase2K so very
sure they are about the new product.
The told me its a whole new team of developpers and Borland has nothing to
do
with the new version.
Now, after a hard discussion with Dbase in France I think we can trust the
new vdb2K version.
