The only *stablee* versions are 6.0.1.6 or 6.0.2.0, and you can get
them from http://mers.com

I don't know and I've never seen a stable 6.0.1.6 in RPM format, only
TARs.

The only thing I can suggest is e-mailing Rob (owner of that site) and
asking for one. I don't know if he keeps those builds around anymore.

Hi Robert,

I tried the classic version, i can isql in the server, but can't connect
from a workstation, I put gds_db file in /etc/xinetd.d:

service gds_db
{
socket_type = stream wait = no
user = root
server = /usr/local/sbin/gds_inet_server
log_on_failure += USERID
}

still does not work, what am I missing here? thanks.

Not really. Classic can use multiple CPU's, but it has other scaling problems
that greatly outweigh the ability to use extra CPU's. SuperServer is what all
databases went to in the 80's due to scaling problems with the classic type of
architecture.

SMP support was introduced in IB 7.1 for super server.

What error message(s) do you get in interbase.log?

> classic avoid this problem?

Which problem? It will not keep the server from locking up. It will
probably keep the failing app or database from bringing down the others
since each connection is a separate process with classic architecture.

That is likely the problem since IB 6.0.x does not support 64 bit file
I/O. Add a second file to the database and that will probably fix the
problem.
