OUr company will be looking to import and export some 'old school' fixed
length data. The data is wrapped up in a way where there is several levels.
For example:

PACKAGE HEADER DATA
---TRANSACTION HEADER
------CUST DATA
------CASE DATA
------MISC DATA
---TRANSACTION TRAILER
PACKAGE TRAILER

each level has it's own fixed length schema, yet the entire package is one
continuous file. Is there a tool out there that would facilitate the process
of defining the schema and then importing/exporting the data? I know it's
rudimentary but the entire spec is about 150 pages of schema and I'm not
looking forward to having to do it all myself.

Are you interested in contracting this out?

there are soem tools at http://www.scalabium.com/. I just finished creating
my own UI for them--it was a bit complicated but they seem to work nicely.

Another vote for SMImport. Mike's support is excellent and for the
money they are a steal.
