The RAD Studio 2007 Trial comes with version 10.1.5, whereas the download
from mirrors listed at www.indyproject.org is version 10.2.3. Looking at the
Indy-site it seems like there never was a stable release of Indy 10, but I
would think that the version that is shipped with Delphi (10.1.5) is quite
stable, yes? If so, is that version available for download from somewhere,
or is it a heavely modified (by CodeGear) version only available wen
purchasing Delphi?
One would perhaps think that I should go with the very latest version
(10.2.3), but it is marked as a development snapshot and, indeed, the last
time I tried compiling that (a coupe of months ago, don't remember the
version), I wasn't convinced that it was ready for production systems. Files
were missing and whatnot.
Also, a TeamB'er asked for help with testing a heavely modified version some
weeks ago, probably a updated version for the RAD Studio 2007 I though. If
so, would the changes that were made be included in the 10.2.3 version? An
if they are, can I assume that it was rejected from RAD Studio 2007 because
it's not considered stable?
Whew, that's exactly why I go for Synapse whenever I find myself thinking
about using Indy... :-)
A lot of people have switched from Indy to other products like ICS

http://www.fredshack.com/docs/ics_delphi.html
or Synapse:

I found my self downgrading to version 10.0.52 in Delphi 2006 because SSL
wasn't working well with the Indy version which comes with Delphi (10.1.5).
It was a PITA to find that and since then I never think on upgrade Indy.
Regards.

That is because Indy 10.2.3 was not ready in time for 2007's release, so
CodeGear decided to ship the same version of Indy that shipped in BDS 2006.

There has never been a "release" version, no. Just nightly snapshots.

That is debatable. There were a lot of problems in it that have been fixed
since then. But at the same time, 10.1.5 uses different architectures in
places than 10.2.3 does.

Indy is not customized for CodeGear. They ship whatever public version is
currently available at the time of their release.

Yes.

So was 10.1.5.

A LOT of work has been done on 10.2.3 in the past few months.

That was me.

That was 10.2.3, which didn't make it into RAD2007 in time for its release.

No, it was rejected because the changes being made to it where not finished
in time for RAD2007's release.

Thanks! I might use that one
Thanks, but a switch is out of the question.
I had quite a lot of code in Indy, made the switch to Synapse and
haven't looked back. It was really worth it.

Ok, at this time I use version 8.0.25, and in going all the way from version
8 to version 10 I will probably have to deal with architectural changes
anyway. I'm not a 'big' user of Indy though, it's only used for sending some
emails and uploading some files, so maybe I wouldn't notice changes in
architecture.

Ok, good to know.

Thank you for putting in the work. I don't use Indy much, and couldn't be of
any help.

Ok, I'm actually just updating, replacing, and repackaging all the
components that we use at work, so that we can easily upgrade Delphi
sometime later, probably not before the 'Tiburon' release of Delphi. It
seems obvious that 'Tiburon' will ship with Indy 10.2.3 or later. What do
you think about that?

Indy is already in talks with CodeGear about being brought "into the loop"
much earlier in the development process (and for other third-party vendors
in general) so we don't run into this problem again (this is not the first
time it has happened for Indy).

I have a few older apps using Indy (9) written with D6, but Synapse is
something that I've been using for just about any network communication
since a year or so ago.
Great product IMO.

I've tried Indy/Winshoes several times over the years, which has always
resulted in a swift uninstall. The suggestion that any version is stable
strikes me as dubious at best. I would never try it again, or suggest it to
anyone.
Being in a bind with a legacy app is a pain, but the conversion may be worth
your time.
Used to be a lot of love for Indy on these forums, but aside from the odd
fanboy that seems to have disappeared.
Same here. Synapse is simple and elegant.
