Delphi 2005 includes Crystal reports integrated into the IDE.
You can distribute a Crystal run-time for free with your apps. The run-time
allows users to view reports only, not create new ones or modify existing
ones.

Thank you. I checked out D2005, and, as I understand it, the Crystal
Reports included is
only for .Net. I'm stuck on Win32, and at the moment Delphi 7. I just got
D2005 today,
and before I can use it, I have to port about a half million lines of Delphi
code to it from D7,
so I will probably need a few days. :-)
I recently found this on the Business Objects Web Site:
Licensing conditions for integrating reporting components into thick-client
applications
Developers can integrate 750+ royalty-free report viewing, printing, and
modification APIs into thick-client applications and deploy or redistribute
these applications at no extra cost.
I take this to mean that I can do what I need as long as its embedded in my
thick client app, and users can only create reports on the fields I provide
for them. I am currently using Rave Reports, and that is their limitation
also.

The Crystal integration (from a development standpoint) in D2005 includes
Win32. You can design crystal reports within the IDE. I'm not sure if this
is what you're looking for, though.
Most of our customers don't build their own crystal reports. We provide a
few canned ones and there are 3rd party companies that write Crystal reports
for our apps. For those customers that do want to write their own, we
usually recommend that they buy a copy of Crystal reports.

Just the sort of info I was looking for. Thank you.

Really? I went to the Borland Web Site and they said it only worked for
.NET. That's great that it also works for Win32. I may have to look at
D2005
more closely. I had blown it off for this when I thought that the Crystal
Reports
packaged with it only worked with .NET. I don't really care about
designing reports within the IDE, I just want to be able to incorporate them
into our app.

We too provide a few canned reports, and most of our customers don't
design their own, though its important that we support that. I agree that
they should buy Crystal Reports if they are really interested in creating
their own reports. A lot of our customers already have Crystal Reports
Server, so I imagine they can already design their own reports for the
most part.
Thank you for the information, I really appreciate it.

FYI:
FastReport for Delphi have not such limitations.
You can give powerful internal report designer in applications for
endusers w/o any additional fees.
