What is the best 3rd Party Decision Cube around that can be recommended for
extensive cell calculations?

Scott

I'll second PivotCube. Quite a nice product for Delphi. My only
complaint is that updates have often introduced bugs into the product.
However, the developer is responsive to support requests and fixes
problems quickly.

Developers Express has an OLAP Cube product that's been out for a while
now too, but I tested it and it does not have the feature set of
PivotCube. I also haven't seen much effort by DevEx to make their cube
product a significant player in the market (yet?).

The only other cube I would consider is ContourCube from
ContourComponents.

http://developers.contourcomponents.com/?pcode=overview

ContourComponents now seem to be selling their own BI product (Contour
BI) which incorporates their cube component, but the component is still
available to developers wishing to integrate it into their own projects.

For developers using C++ Builder, ContourCube is available as VCL, but
for Delphi, you'll have to use the ActiveX or .Net variant.

At one time, DataDynamics http://www.datadynamics.com was the only
component vendor in this market with their powerful DynamiCube product.
The product still exists, but a lot of developers abandon it when it
appeared as if the company had stopped development because version 3.0
took so long to come out. I'm not sure they ever regained their market
share after such a bitter fallout with their customers. At one time
their forums were rife with complaints.

Hope this helps.

yes, and a few more that seem to have totally dropped off the radar.....
Spreadsheet
Flowchart
OrgChart

instead we get more bars, skins and BIG grids

.net seems to be where the money is for devex now .... and although the vcl
subscription is still more expensive than the DXexperience sub, most of the
effort seems to go to .net
.
and a bit off topic ..... BUT .....
Good to see devex with a lightweight grid for asp.net.
Pity they don't still support such an idea with VCL (e.g. QG3)

cheers, Ron

Apart from the ones already mentioned:
http://www.radar-soft.com/products/vcl.aspx?setlang=yes

And maybe the new FastCube from Fast Report?

Can't recommend any of them (as I did not evaluate).

Why not use the crosstab from MS Excel via ole-programming?
Or do you need the pure VCL solution?

This one did have some neat features, but when I tested it, performance
was less than stellar.

We considered this, but this would require the user to have Excel.
Using OLE would be the easiest solution as it is already working as a
compiled (exe) Spreadsheet.

Other alternatives (not tested):

FastCube - http://fast-report.com/en/products/fast-cube.html

ExpressPivotGrid - http://www.devexpress.com/Products/VCL/ExPivotGrid/

On other alternative... It is an ActiveX control, but it really has a nice
interface and the cubes are ultra small and portable... (you could easily
send cubes via email).

Also, they have complete examples/full applications written in Delphi...

http://developers.contourcomponents.com/?pcode=overview

If you can't/don't want to use ActiveX technology, then this isn't a
solution for you. For future development, they also have C# (not sure if it
works in Delphi.net)
