I've just purchased the Barcode components from Zorn Software. He includes
a very cryptic set of instructions for installing them. It requires that
you build the package/components from 5 .pas files.

I've built a component before, but many years ago. And the way he has
worded things doesn't match anything I've done before. Can anyone give me
pointers to do the necessay to get these things installed?

If I simply attempt to built a component called ZBarCode that includes
Zbarcode.pas I'm told the component is recursively calling itself. I know
what that means. Hans Zorn suggests I build a package that consists of all
the .pas files. When I attempt that I get errors where it is looking for a
QuickReport unit.

I'm using Delphi 5.

Thanks

You need to add the run time package that contains the QuickReport
components. It probably starts with a Q and has a ?pl extension.

Mark

Thanks for your reply. Actually I had to build the component package.
Zorn's instructions do not make that clear. His instructions appear to
suggest you "install them likely any other package". Whatever the hell that
means. I finally figured it out by finding out that I needed to create the
package.

I'm thinking he's an example of the type of developer who expects everyone
to "know what he knows". And gets impatient with us clutzes who don't.
I've sent him an email with a set of instructions that I think would work
for people like me. Whether he sees fit to use them is up to him.

I did the same thing. I had to create a new project using the supplied
units. It was frustrating at first but I managed. We should get a royalty
for determining how to install the components and the instructions in this
newsgroup :)
