From a WhoIs server one can see the domain has been renewed
last year, thus the owner (James Heyworth) must be still alive:

Have you ever tried contacting him by the email address that
appear in the domain info page? There are two addresses - see
the link above.

Well, someone has renewed their domain.
Now, as for the port to .NET, do you have the source code?
Perhaps it can be ported with some effort. If you can't do it
by yourself, you can (once having the sources) contract someone
to do it.
Otherwise, at least you at least got an argument to tell your
boss the port he wants is not possible.
Can't you get the same effect by using a pagecontrol and set parent of the
form you want to embed, to the desired TTabsheet, at runtime?
(you probably also want to set borderstyle to none and align to client of
the form to embed).

lets you embed other forms in the pages of a notebook. <<
TLMDFormDisplay works in a very similar way and is available as VCL.NET
version. It is part of the freeware LMD-Tools SE package, check out

I used your Delphi 2005 port - worked great. Any chance you'll look at
Delphi 2007?
There are a few ABC Components that I have been unable to locate
substitutes for - the DBNavigator for example and its ability to
automatically switch the DataSource.

Hi Paul,
I have the full (with source) ABC 7 on D7 and am trying to port it to D2007.
I have an issue with some LCID info that seems to be in it that prevents it
from compiling successfully that I can't trace.
I really would be interested in getting hold of the D2006 or D2007 verion if
it is available. Alternatively if you could point me to how to fix the compile
problem, see LCID error??? thread on 26/03 in this NG.
Like the previous writers I have had no luck with response from ObSof and/or
James.
Regards & TIA,
Ian.

Simply out of interest, why?
Caleb
I personally have moved away from using ABC. I use TMS, Billenium
Effects, and some other components instead.
I did try to take a look at compiling ABC into 2007. I thought that
2007's compiler was supposed to be essentially unchanged from 2006, a
"non-breaking" release. I thought it was supposed to have some
tweaked optimizations, and some additional warnings, but no
compatibility changes. But when I tried to compile ABC 7 using my
2006 packages, it wouldn't compile. And it didn't look easy to fix,
though perhaps it might be easier than I thought. I just wasn't
motivated to find out why there seemed to be so many problems.
Now, one possibility might be to build it with 2006, and install the
compiled packages into 2007. I've heard that is supposed to work. But
I didn't try it.
HI Paul,
I would really appreciate getting my hands on the D2006 port. I aqm happy to
work on it for D2007, I just couldn't get over/past the LCID issue.

Ian Branch

HI Paul,
Received with thanks. Building in D206 before I move to D2007.
I have an issues with some units. I wonder if you would care to assist/advise?
1. unit abcdadbx - I am chasing my tail with Strings & WideStrings around
GetIndexNames.
Refering to Lines 66 & 186-189.
This one is preventing complete building of both Run & DESIGN.
2. unit abcpropb - Again, chasing my tail to resolve this one. - [Pascal
Error] abcpropb.pas(196): E2065 Unsatisfied forward or external declaration:
'TabcDBQueryGridEditor.GetParamsEditor'
Regards & TIA,
Ian

You got the 2006 version of my packages, right? In the instructions,
I mention some casts in regards to strings/widestrings. You did
those, right?

I don't remember running into that. Although it would be a big
attachment, you could maybe zip up your ABC directory and e-mail it to
me, and I could maybe see why you are getting that error when I
didn't.
OK. Got me. Mea Culpa. Failed to RTFM. Apologies.
All installed under D2006 OK.
All adjusted and installed under D2007 OJ as well.
Thanks you very much. Highly appreciated.

Ian

How did you resolve the E2003 Undeclared identifier:
'abcFormDesignerUniqueName' error?
I am trying to compile ABC in Borland 2006 before I move to 2007.

Hi Brian,
Sorry, can't help, I didn't get/see that error.

I would search for "abcFormDesignerUniqueName" in all files and then
look for {$IFDEF } around it.

The topic says .NET components. ABC was never ported to .NET. I did
some porting to get it to compile in D2005 and D2006 Win32, if that
would help you:
I am using your D2006 build files. I have built the ABC-RUN components
without errors. I am now attempting to get the ABC_DESIGN components to
build.
The error is in the abcdfsbd.pas file.
There is as Andreas points out a {$IFDEF} around the error - it is in a
DELPHI 6 block, which should not even be used.

There is a {$IFDEF } around it. The error is failing in the DELPHI6
block, which is strange.
Brian
The define really means 6 or higher. I've seen similar defines in
different product, and they usually define things like
DELPHI6_OR_HIGHER, something like that. But in ABC, they just say
DELPHI6 to mean that. So, it IS a block that should be compiled. So,
let me look a bit more...
That designer is defined in ABCPROP.PAS. And ABCDBFBD.PAS uses it. I
recommended some edits to ABCPROP.PAS. I suspect you made some error
in editing ABCPROP.PAS.
Only a programmer could make sense of the meaning of that. When I first
saw it I figured someone's kid had been playing on the keyboard!

Looks like 8.3 file-names by an old-school DOS coder. <g>

XanaNews Version 1.17.5.7 [Q's salutation mod]
Got the problem fixed - I did not comment out the register ABC Component
Browser so it was trying to compile these components. I made the change
and it compiled and installed everything properly.
Thanks for the help - now I'll work on converting my applications away
from ABC Components.
