AJC Software has released AJC Active Backup V1.1.15, a powerful Windows
utility that instantly backs up any file you change on your PC as soon as it
is saved. Multiple versions of each file are kept in a compact archive
giving unlimited undo capabilities and protection from costly mistakes or
file corruption. This avoids reaching for last night's backup, if there is
one.

It has a built-in capability to compare each change you have made to a file
so you can see what has been done and when. Any historical version of a
file can be extracted by simply right clicking on a file or accessing it
from a convenient popup list of recent files changed. Comments can also be
entered against each revision so you can record important information about
what state the file was in at that point in time.

AJC Active Backup brings revision control to the average computer user or
user who is too busy to worry about doing backups. It is completely
automatic and requires no regular attention once the initial setup wizard
has been filled in. It operates in the background via a subtle indicator in
the Windows status bar with hardly any noticeable change to the computer's
performance.

The backup archives created are very compact because compression is used and
only the changes to each file are stored each time a new revision is added.
An automatic purge feature is included to stop the archives from growing too
large.

Whether you are a software developer, documenter or web designer etc, AJC
Active Backup is an important safety net for any PC user who values their
work. Even if you have a centralized revision control system and do regular
backups AJC Active Backup is of great value because it backs up every time
you save a file without you having to think about it. Your archive is
always up to date, whereas your other backups may be hours or days out of
date.

I've been interested in trying this out for a while, but I am a bit
concerned about irreversible changes it may make to my system (XP Pro SP2)
and how cleanly the trial version un-installs if I choose to. Any comments
by users would be welcome.

TIA, Olivier

Hi Olivier,

I installed the trial yesterday. It puts the archive in a directory tree
under a directory you specify, so from the standpoint of removing the files,
it should be no problem at all. Looks like it uses Inno Setup, and there is
an uninstall item in the Start menu for removing it. Inno Setup does a good
job of uninstalling the application and files that I create and distribute,
so I would assume it does an equally good job of uninstalling this one.

I'm very impressed with not only AJC Active Backup, but also the directory
synchronizer and file diff apps as well. I expect to be buying all three
after trying them for a few days.

And I sent Andrew a question which he responded to almost immediately, so
the support gets high marks for the brief exposure I've had so far.

Hi Oliver,

Don't worry it does not make any intrusive or irreversible changes to your
system. I take pride in creating quality robust software. If you have any
questions don't hesitate to ask.

It's always nice to know if others use a product and if it's any good.
Well this is 5-Star - I recomment it 100% and at the incredibly low
price it's a must have tool for any kind of development environment.

It's permanently running on a very busy development/business PC that
backsup (in realtime) all development, "my docs", business, etc folders
perfectly. Never a hiccup or side-effect.
Event the golden test of actually using the history backups with
compares for difference is 100% reliable.

I'm nothing to do with Andrew apart from being a customer.

Don't think about it. Buy It!
