I need to display and edit RTF files in D7 and the standard DBRichEdit would
certainly display OK, but the editing is then the problem.

I used to use WPTools - all you did was add the editing toolbar, decide the
options, associate it with the rich edit and away you go - but that was v3.1
which I used with D1!. I still have the install files and was thinking about
trying it now, but there was a note in the documentation that said it didn't
work with D2, so I assume it won't work with D7.

I have just checked and WPTools5 standard is ?285, which is way too much
money for my simple need, and no obvious upgrade price.

All I need is to be able to add colour, font size and bold, italic and
underline.

Can anyone suggest a component that has RTF editing functionality?

Thanks.

Hi Andrew,

The TJvRichEdit does not appear to do anything more than display RTF text
like a TRichEdit does, albeit with some more options. It would still require
me to use an external RTF editor, such as WordPad, to create the file in the
first place.

What I was after was a component that either has basic RTF editing built in
or a component that would bind itself to a DBRichEdit component and provide
the editing. In that way, i could type in some text, highlight it and then
make it bold, coloured etc.

I have found www.trichview.com which appears to be like WPTools in that it
is a combination of a rich text component and style menu bars etc., and also
Brankos RichText formatting component, which provides a series of formatting
buttons which can bind to a TRichEdit. However, it was written for D5 and I
have yet to try it on D7. It also seems to require a package that is no
longer at the link provided.

Have I missed some functionality on the TJvRichEdit?

Thanks,

Tim

Wrong.

Again, TJvRichEdit and, I emphasize, *EDIT*.

YES.

Look into the demos.

I stand corrected!

Quite apart from the functionality of the component, that is a pretty good
demo.

Many thanks.

I use TRichview (www.trichview.com) with D7 and it works well. It
integrates well with Addict (www.addictive-software.com) spell checker
to provide Live Spelling support. Both are highly recommended.

The last Delphi version supported by WPTools 3 was Delphi 6. It was
replaced by WPTools 4 several years ago which can be still used in
Delphi 2006.

WPTools 5 is a new development, it is not based on the engine used in
version 3 and 4. Internally it is 100% object oriented and it
implements the logical separation between display and data, only this
makes "multi view", split screen and thumbnail view possible.

Mabye its features are more than what you need right now (WYSIWYG
editable header and footer, nestable tables, image with text wrap,
fast zooming, paragraph styles...) but it is still pretty compact due
to its modular architecture. You will be able to use it for several
tasks.

There is no upgrade from V3 anymore, from V4 the upgrade price is EURO
165,- (for the "standard" upgrade). V3 customers get 15% discount.

Hi Luke,

Yes, TRichView does seem to be the only comparitive alternative to WPTools.
Looks good. I will bear it in mind.

Hi Julian,

Thanks for the comments - I will certainly consider the product if my needs
change.
