Okay, I need a free mp3 player component for Delphi 6
I've tried using the TMediaPlayer which comes with it, but it simply emits a high-pitch noise from the speakers then crashes.
As do a couple of 'enhanced' versions of it.
I've also tried "elsounds", "dmp3ykv1" and a few more, but I can't get any of them to work.

One wont work because I can't install vumeter - due to not having a "dsgnintf" file with Delphi6 - I've tried using D3/4/5 versions but none of these work.

What I want is simple. A single component which can:
Open, Play, Pause, Stop and Close mp3 files
That's all. Nothing more.

Please help me, I think I'm going insane!!!

Thanks.

I'm getting a "File not found 'directshow.dcu'" error.

I assume I need to go and download the directX for Delphi component set?

Well I downloaded the DelphiX package, and used the guide from http://turbo.gamedev.net/delphixd6.asp to alter it so it would work in Delphi6, but I still can't get it to work properly!

I know there must be a way around this!

In the cbaudioplay readme.htm file it states

"You need to have the JEDI Graphix DirectX 8 (or higher) header files.
You may download it at
http://www.delphi-jedi.org/delphigraphics/headers_section_directx.htm "

If you still have problems (and still want to use cbaudioplay) contact me
via email at mre...@tetzel.com.

Hope this works for you

Another one you could try is XAudio. I've used this in D5 and works great.

I don't know about Delphi 6, but the TMediaplayer works properly for Delphi
5.
There is a sample project available here
http://delphi.about.com/library/weekly/aa112800a.htm

That was one of the first things I found.
The website is /still/ down for maintenance.
Oh well.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway, sorry for late response.

Sorry for responding so late, I've been very busy.
I was still unable to get that working, but luckily someone has pointed me towards a thing called "fmod" which all works perfectly and everything. It also has lots of great features.

Anyone who is interested can get it from http://www.fmod.org

Thanks again for all the help.

I fumbled with mp3 stuff for a while in the past and ultimately found that
using DirectShow to play mp3s worked the best although it requires DirectX
be installed on the client machine. This is not a huge deal as it's
included in most Windows installations these days. You can download an
example from the jedi website (last I checked) at
http://www.delphi-jedi.org/DelphiGraphics/samples_section_directx.htm .
Using the sample there, you can build a simple-but-working mp3 player in 15
minutes...
