Hi, All:

I have a typo in my last post so please ignore it. What I am looking for is
an OCR component instead of an OCX component.

TIA,
Ping Kam

Does it? We use it for displaying TIFFs but it doesn't publish any OCR
capabilities.

We need OCR as well and are looking at the heavyweights from Caere (sp) you
know omni page etc.

I have but it does look like Envision has OCR support.

Thanks anyway.

I found Pegasus SmartScan Xpress from the web. It will do OCR and ICR and
VCLs are included for Delphi. Looks very interesting. However, it is quite
pricey and requires user licenses to deploy the runtime engine if it is
integrated into your software.

Envision does not have OCR support. I have done some research on many
OCR engines about one year ago, and have successfully integrated the
Tiger OCR engine (www.ocr.com) with a software that uses Envision. This
engine was used by Corel I think in the CorelTrace program. It is a very
fast engine, but it's accuracy was not as good as leaders such as
OmniPage and TextBridge. The support for the Tiger engine was very poor.

There is a not so well known engine from Russia, which may have the best
accuracy, called FineReader. I just received an email from them, saying
they have released a new version, and the toolkit is advertised as being
compatible with Delphi. http://www.abbyy.com/

There is also a much less expensive engine called WOCAR,
http://persoweb.francenet.fr/~cambien/edll.html

Best regards,

Michel

Dear Ping..........

Basically all the leading OCR components are own by ScanSoft. Products are
TextBridge, Caree & OmniPage Pro.

www.scansoft.com

Their Developer's Kit 2000 is what I just got done using with Delphi 5. Its a
OCR and it works great. Had little to know problems with it. Plus it comes
with Delphi examples which are nice. Helps speed up the learning curve.

Good luck......Brian

Hi, Brian:

Thanks for you reply.

Actually, I found Scansoft's Development kit from the search on the net but
Pegasus' SmartScan looks more attractive.

Have you looked at Pegasus' SmartScan? It says it will even provide VCL for
Delphi users. The kit itself is not cheap but most expensive is the license
to deploy the runtime engine. Can you tell me the pricing range of
Scansoft? Do they charge for deploying the runtime engine?

TIA,
Ping

Hi, Micheal:

I think accuracy is very important for our project so I will not consider
Tiger.

But thanks for the links to the other URLs.
