If your shop uses the "try before you buy" marketing method (AKA
shareware, trialware or trial software) consider joining the TPA.
Membership for eligible companies is free of charge.
The TPA is an non-profit organization whose focus is to enhance the
professionalism of the trial software industry.
Trialware is any software that is marketed by making available a free
time or feature limited version.
Visit the TPA web site for more details:

As a happy and satisfied member of the ASP I'm inclined
to agree with Peck on this one. Those interested in finding

What great marketing plan?
The TPA is very different from the ASP. Either you agree with what the
TPA stands for or you don't. Its about ideals not marketing.
The ASP accepts anyone with $100. The TPA only accepts companies that
meet it's standards. The ASP's main focus is to help out newcomers to
the software business and to promote the old-fashioned "shareware"
concept. The TPA's main focus is to promote professionalism of it's
member and promote the more descriptive trialware term.

Coming from a person that's never been a member of the ASP (Michael
Fullerton) that's a bit rich. Sorry, Michael, but as usual your summary
is completely *wrong* on what the ASP stands for, offers etc. But
then - we've debated this on the alt.comp.shareware.nutters newsgroup
before, haven't we....

Also on news:comp.software.shareware.authors <moderated> The ASP's
focus is to assist members *sell* software. That's why they have
professional press release services (http://www.dpdirectory.com) ,
Member benefits http://www.asp-shareare.org (such as discounts on
products and services), Members only Newsgroups and a public newsgroup
news:news.asp-shareware.org.asp.public_discussion
As well as networking meetings for authors - one in France in a few
months, another in the USA soon as well, with another being organized in
Australia. A long standing support for the SIC http://www.sic.org
as well as over 800 members worldwide. Most of whom are hardly
"newcomers" as their companies and software sales testify. Or would you
call Ziff Davis a "newcomer" ...? Of course - Michael seems to always
get into a lather over the word "shareware" vs "trialware". Sadly it
hasn't dawned on him that it's all just marketing and *not* a type of
software
product. It doesn't matter if you call it shareware, trialware, or
dorkware - the ultimate point is the amount of return in sales and happy
customers who can *try before they buy*. Finally the ASP has the
Ombudsman which offers a method for software users of ASP member
products to
seek independent arbitration. Rarely needed - but nice to know it's
there... :-)
