Could anyone clarify: is it possible to compile, build and deploy
.NET-applications with D7 - or does "preview" imply that one can only try
and learn while waiting for a "final" version?
If the latter is the case: how long is the "#1 independent path" to .NET,
and how is an investment in D7 secured as a path to Delphi.NET?
(I know the answer can at most be a educated guess; that's fine)
If .NET is the only reason to upgrade to D7: would it be wiser to wait 'till
the real (not preview) is here?
You can, but it only a command-line compiler so far. You don't have
a form designer to build GUI with, you'd have to create forms, buttons
and everything else in code. I also assume that preview = beta, but keep
in mind that registred D7 users are going to get updates to this compilers
and to the .net VCL as it is progressing.

It's a path : you have to walk a long road along it until it's ready. <g>
I'd say that it's a great way to make sure your existing and new application
are going to be easily ported to .net with minimal changes in the source
code.
D7 gives you warnings and hints about code that won't work on .net (if you
chose to see them, you can turn on/off specific hints/warnings on project
settings). You can try your code on the preview compiler. You can use
namespaces in existing/new projects (Delphi .net will have default
namespaces in compiler, project and unit level).

D7 will give you a preview of how much of your existing code will work
with .NET : you can use the time until the preview is released to port it.

Yes it would be wiser to wait (but still play with the free preview).

Where have you seen that. My undersanding was that it would only be
available for registered D7 users.

That is correct. There is no free preview. It is available only to
registered D7 owners.

If this is the only reason then wait...

Who says you can download it for free?

Hi,

I am not the slightest bit interested in .net, and D7 is a pretty
compelling upgrade for me. Its the first version in a long while that
there is 'something for everyone', .net or not.

Its listed in the feature matrix for Delphi 7 personal, which unless
Borland are changing things, will be free to download.

What is great in D7 that isn't available in D6 or in a seperate product
(such as Kylix, Intraweb, Bold, .Net preview, etc) ?
Interested in opinions.

Hi,

Looking at the feature matrix, quite a lot.
