Well I've got in a real mess now...

D5 has started to go unstable, weird errors, access violations, missing help
index etc so I thought it was time to reinstall.

Unfortunately I decided earlier to get rid of D2,D3 and D4. The attempt to
uninstall D2 using the control panel caused a fleeting flurry of activity
which removed all reference to any Delphi version from the control panel -
but left all the programs intact!

How can I now remove D5 (without reinstalling WIN95!!)?

Regards
Paul

Try deleting the Delphi directory and then runnign a registry cleaner like
RegClean, CleanX or Norton WinDoctor.

I would suggest to uninstall D5 (or delete its directory), and then install
it again. Something is messed up, and to my experience D5 might not be
responsible.

Before deleting the directory, look for the uninstall log file! You can
possibly run an uninstaller on that. If that isn't there or doesn't work,
*then* resort to manual delete of the directory and registry clean-up.

Thanks for the thought but using a registry cleaner fills me with fear. I
decided to try reinstalling D5 over the old copy - it hasn't put the
uninstall back but it has allowed it to limp on for a while.

Paul

Well, two of the three I mentioned allow for you to undo the clean fairly
easily. CleanX creates a new merge file with the changes so you just have to
remerge it back in. WinDoctor allows you to examine each change and potential
solutions and you can pick and choose which you want to apply and keeps a
history to allow you to back them out (I can't remember if RegEdit does what
CleanX does or not, I know it doesn't do a Windoctor type of concept).

Honestly though, you will find you OS generally more stable if you run some kind
of cleaner monthly.
