I posted this in .Install but I suppose this isn't strictly an install
issue.

I had BDS4 installed, with Update 1, JEDI JCL, JEDI JVCL, JEDI VCS,
SvCom, GExperts. Update 2 installed with no problems, took about 15
minutes. But now when I try to start BDS, in any flavour, I get a quick
glimpse of the splash screen, it disappears and then nothing else
happens. It's not hung - BDS does not appear in the process list.

I have since tried uninstalling BDS (which take a really long time -
about half an hour), then reinstalling and applying Update2 immediately.
Exact same result.

I'm not sure where to even start trying to figure out what's going - any
suggestions?

Thanks!

If you installed the components before you installed update 2, try
installing the components after update 2.

Sorry - I should have detailed that.
When I tried the uninstall route, I applied Update2 to BDS after
reinstalling it but before I installed anything else. So it was clean
of any 3rd party components (not included in the BDS install). Which
reminds me: when I reinstalled BDS I even chose to make it a little
leaner, choosing not to install C++, IntraWeb, Database components, or
any of the "Additional Installs" like Wise, ComponentOne, etc.

It happened to me some yesterday, but today no disappearing BDS after
splash screen. No idea why it stopped happening.

Sean,
What happens if you remove/rename your ApplicationSettings.xml file?

Have you tried cleaning up the registry after uninstalling Delphi, just to
make sure everything is gone. Then reinstall and install update 2.

If that goes ok, install one component pack at a time, and if and when it
crashed, inform us what package created problems.

I had a similar problem with DEP, it would close the app no warning, no
message nothing. I changed the setting and it was ok

Sean,

I had the same problem This is the solution:

In the directory <AppData>\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\<large directory name> there
is a file which BDS accesses while startup.
You can check with FileMon (www.sysinternals.com) which one it is.
Delete this file, then Delphi Update #2 starts normally.

Hope this helps

Bert.

This should be in Quality Central along with the work around!

That worked! Directory was
S-1-5-21-1993962763-602609370-682003330-1005\29b84730597a3569fecf9a82177488b7_3fd0fa3a-0596-455a-a775-42927
BDS fired up properly and recreated the file, though its obviously
different. Thank you very much for pointing it out, and for suggesting
that tool.

I've submitted this to QC #27973

In article <444cec8e$1...@newsgroups.borland.com>,
sean...@qatechnologies.com says...

I just applied Update2 to my laptop and I'm seeing the same problem a
quick flash of the splash screen and it terminates, but removing this
file hasn't fixed it.
