Some background:
- I have BDS2006 Enterprise plus Software Assurance.
- I got the email from CodeGear about Delphi 2007 and downloaded and
installed it.
- I got the email form CodeGear for RAD Studio 2007 and downloaded the 4 GB
ISO file, only to then remember that I don't have a DVD burner (doh!! Off
to the store...).
- So, instead, I downloaded the 770 MB install file
(CodeGearRADStudio2007_v11.0.2804.9245.4). "Hmmm, why is this thing 1/5 the
size of the ISO?" I asked, but onward I went.
I installed "RAD Studio 2007" per the "install" read file. Was surprised
that the installer didn't ask any questions about IDE personalities, nor do
I recall seeing any dialogs about installing all the prerequisites for .NET
2.0 (though I already have them on my development machine).
When I run RAD Studio only the Delphi personality appears to be installed.
Looking at the start menu there's only a Delphi 2007 icon and I don't see
anything that hints at .NET in the installation folder.
I went back to the install file to see if I somehow missed special
instructions for people upgrading from Delphi 2007 to RAD Studio 2007
(Enterprise, in my case) -- this case is not mentioned at all.
I tried using the -p switch with "DelphiDotNet" to try to force the IDE to
open with that personality -- no luck. The IDE didn't even open.
Has anyone else tried this upgrade path and gotten all of the IDE
personalities installed? Is there some step I missed?
By the way, this saga led me to another tech support saga, which I'm going
to post next.
Thanks,
Chris

Well, be aware there is a peer support forum at borland.public.install.delphi,
or you can open a free installation support case at
http://support.codegear.com/delphi/install

Thanks, Rick. Does your response mean that the only way to get all of the
personalities installed is via the DVD or ISO? If so that would be a really
nice thing to have posted on the download page since, as I said, the ISO is
5X bigger than the zip file and the file name and version only differs by
the the very last digit.
I did look at the support/install page, but tell me where the RAD Studio
link is in this list:
3rdRail
C# Builder
C++ Builder
Delphi
Delphi for PHP
Borland Developer Studio
InterBase
JBuilder
JDataStore
JGear LiveSource
JGear Performance
JGear Team Client
JGear Team Server
Kylix
Call me crazy but it sure seems that CodeGear's installation support page
would at least include a properly labeled selection for their biggest
product release yet. It is "RAD Studio 2007" not "BDS 2007", right?
Combine this with all the difficulties I've had trying to use my
BorGearCodeLand software assurance support credentials and it's apparent
that CodeGear still has a lot of work to do on the support side. Maybe all
the support engineers are busy trying to fix the craptastic help system.
Thanks,
Chris
If you have D2007 installed and want to install the full RAD Studio 2007,
including both Delphi for VCL and the Delphi for .NET personality (and even
C++ if you want it....ick!!), you have to choose "Upgrade" in the installer.
This choice is not selected by default.
Once you select it you will be queried for your serial number, which you
hopefully received from CodeGear via email.
Also, you can use the 770 MB .zip file from the RAD Studio download site in
lieu of the DVD ISO (in case you, too, don't have a DVD burner).
When you extract the .zip file, go into the /install directory where you
extracted it and run the Setup program. It helps to sort the 427 files
there by type so you can find it!
Then, as I said above, chose "Upgrade" to install the full RAD Studio.
Good luck,
Chris

And you bother with burning discs to run programs? I use Virtual CD and
never burn images...

You can use ISObuster to extract the files from the iso file to your
harddisk. No DVD is really needed.
The free version of isobuster works fine for this purpose.

7-zip will also open ISO files.
