The new registration wizard in RAD Studio 2007 offers only two
registration options so far. I am allowed only to either register
online or import an activation (license) file. I don't want to
register online. How do I obtain an activation file in order to
register my copy of RAD Studio 2007? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I think they just killed this possibility. Not very kind to us poor users

I think it may be thru:

The License Manager that is provided with RADStudio offers the option to
enter a serial number as well.

Thanks for the response, but this requires a valid registration
key/code to be entered. How do I get one? The page says it should be
mentioned on the final page of the registration wizard, but my wizard
has only one page and there is no registration key/code AFAICS.
Thanks for the response, but I don't need to enter a serial number.
When I run the License Manager, there already is my serial number
included in the "Unregistered serial numbers" tree node. What I need
is to *register* my serial number. Right click on the serial number in
the License Manager opens up the Registration Wizard which does not
allow me to obtain the activation file by email. That's it.
Thanks for the response. They simply can't assume that everyone's
development machine has internet connection to begin with. This is
just ridiculous.

You don't have to have the development machine connected to the
internet.
You can go to any machine in the world and fill out the page here:
and the proper files will be emailed to you.
You can then follow the instructions in the email on the non-connected
to the internet machine.

Apologies if it's my eyesite that's failing, but I don't see how any new
customer visiting www.codegear.com would find that page.
Support / Offerings / Installation and Registration leads to something
which doesn't look like a registration form:
...
o Error message you received, if any (preferably cut-and-paste of the
verbatim message)
o Explanation of what you were doing when the error occurred
...
And the top 4 results for a search for "Register" are...
1. 3rdRail Sweepstakes Official Rules
2. Education
3. Privacy Policy
4. Turbo products page

I agree there. There are many things on that site that seem like you
must know the address rather than finding a link. eg, edit your
account settings? Increase your registration limit? Register your
software?
Maybe these do in fact have links somewhere, but I sure can't find
them.

I haven't done this in a while, but IIRC it's linked directly within
the registration wizard.

Nor do I. However, the registration application does point to it,
right?
How, exactly, would that help if one is installing it on machine 'A'
(not internet connected), and wants to go to the website and register
the program from machine 'B' (which is internet connected)?

It wouldn't.
Doesn't it just start a browser with the URL on machine A which you can then
write down on paper?

You're correct -- but my complaint is with 'software activation' as a whole.
Anything that you folks do to make it MORE difficult for me to use the
product is something that you'd better make DARNED sure has beneficial
offsets. There are several products that I use, on a fairly regular
basis, where I haven't upgraded because of the difficulty that the
vendor imposes with software activation (Adobe comes to mind
immediately). I have bought/paid for the product, don't use it on
anyone's machine but my own, but I have to pay the price for YOUR
perceived problems with 'pirates'.
And since you seem content to make a jibe at me (<G>), any progress on
posting that escrow policy regarding software activation???

Yes, but I'm /100%/ certain that David will complain about that. ;-)

You also pay extra at retail to accomodate shoplifting, and in the produce
isle to cover spoilage.
I'm no bigger a fan of activation schemes than you are, but software is
hardly distinct in having customers pay more as a result of 'inefficiencies'
in the distribution system. Sometimes it's in dollars, sometimes in
inconvenience, but it's all a part of cost.

Unfortunately, no. I have bigger fish to fry. It's still on the stove,
though.

When I entered my serial number and then chose to register it, I was given
the option to register via my BDN account online, which activated the serial
number immediately without downloading any activation file first.

I'm not sure if people would get excited about frisk search every time
they visit the store ;)
Perhaps if the officiers were of proper breast size...
Many stores have electronic merchandise tag detectors at all
doors--effectively a customer 'scan' on entrance and exit--and you're right,
nobody gets too excited about it one way or the other.

Thanks for the response, Nick. There is one problem though - I can't seem to find a way how to obtain a registration code that the web page asks for. From what I have read on that page, the registration code should be mentioned somewhere in the registration wizard window, but either I'm blind or there is not one. The registration wizard for previous IDE versions (D7, D2005, BDS2006) used to show the registration code in there, but it's not the case with RAD Studio 2007. Could you please advise me how do I obtain one?
I hope you can see this message as I had a hard drive crash yesterday and am accessing the newsgroup via web interface (HDD has a couple of bad blocks but it's still spinning, so I reinstalled the Windows and waiting for a new one to arrive. :-)
Best regards,
Ivo

It's the one that came with your product: your registration key.

Yes, but he specifically wants to use this registration file as the PC
he's installing on isn't connected to the internet!

Markus

He can go to /any/ computer in the world, register, have the
registration file sent to his email address, and then put the file on
his development machine.
Nick, I have the impression that we are talking about
different things. Please let me recap my intentions:
The product registration web page asks me to supply two
things: (i) serial number, and (ii) registration code. The
serial number is what came with my product (actually I'm on
Studio type SA and received unserialized media kit for the
RAD Studio upon my request, hence I'm using serial number
I obtained through CodeGear maintenance portal).
The registration code, on the other hand, is the second thing
I need to specify on the product registration web page, but
I don't know how to determine what it actually is. As I said, it used to be mentioned in the earlier versions of product registration wizard, but it's, for a reason unknown to me, hidden in the RAD Studio 2007 registration wizard.
So, please let me repeat my question: Where do I obtain the registration code for my RAD Studio 2007? In the earlier versions, it used to be generated randomly - on each installation it had a different value - AFAICS.
Thank you very much in advance!
Ivo
This is exactly my intention, yes!
Thanks,
Ivo
That's correct, but to be able to successfully register my serial number, I *have to* know the registration code. So my problem now boils down to where do I get the registration code?
Thanks,
Ivo

OKay, now I'm thoroughly confused.
I'll email our developer.

You're not alone. There are at least two of us out there. ;-)
>Seems nobody at CodeGear tried to install the software on a not connected machine,
Yes, it appears so. However, Nick Hodges is currently investigating this issue and hopefully will keep us updated. I still hope that there is a way (albeit indirect) how to obtain the registration code.
Best regards,
Ivo
I am still working with the support folks to register my software. The
first activation file they sent me did not work, so it's on to round two.

Send me your key. We should be able to create a reg file for you.
I've just sent my serial number via email over to you. Kindly waiting
for an activation file.
One more thing: Although I greatly appreciate your personal
involvement in this case, for the future I would rather be able to
request an activation file directly via registration wizard. From your
response I get an impression that this feature is no longer available
in the registration wizard, which is rather unfortunate. :-(
Thanks!

the second line should read: activation file directly via registration
web server.

OK, I could not stand it and finally filed my support case regarding
this issue. Now, when only a couple of minutes has elapsed, I have my
copy of RAD Studio 2007 already registered.
The support representative (Mrs. Emma Kebila) was very responsive and
helpful and I have been told that the registration code/key is buried
deep inside the following file:
C:\Documents and Settings\{UserName}\sanct.log
The URL of registration web server is
Back to work! ;-)
