Can anyone tell me where I can get the code for the Hyperstr module? I've
looked all over for it and have not been able to find it. The website no
longer exists. No sure what happened to the author. I'm upgrading from
Delphi 5 to 2006 and I've used that module in many places.

Thanks for whatever help you can give me.

Did you try writing an actual letter to his address in Georgia? I have one
ready to go but haven't mailed it yet.

A good few months ago a few of us sat down and actually looked at it,
and found it was a simple case of compile and fix the whines.. took me
about 5 minutes to fix it.. I recall all I actually changed was 1 asm
call to a different one approved by the compiler.

Are you saying you actually have a copy of the code? I don't. That's what
I'm looking for. I wouldn't mind tweaking and compiling if I had something
to tweak and compile.

I do, but like the others I worked with I owned a bought a copy of the
code. Until we can get permission from the author I would be reluctant
to hand out his work which was not free source at the time.

I understand. Do you have any idea how to find him? I understand his name
is Ernie Deel. His help file contains a website that is no longer valid.
It also has a mailing address, to which I just sent a letter. I don't have
much confidence there will be an answer. He appears to have dropped out of
sight. Web searches have not returned much.

If I remember right I got one update from the author that supported D7. If
you get the source then this version is the one you want. It compiles
without modification to D7, D2005 and D2006. (BTW - same story as Liz, I'm
a registered user with source but can't share without permission from
author.) :(

Looks like Stephen Quinn has a version newer than mine.

Thats the one I have too. I had a previous version as well which I
managed to convert to 2005/2006 friendly

yes, I have the slightly newer version too, I have 6.03..

Its such a shame it went into disuse, as its a shame borland cant
effectively buy it and incorporate it too.

I called him yesterday and it was indeed Ernie Deel who wrote HyperStr.pas.
He said he would email me as to how to purchase the source code. So far I
haven't received the email. I was waiting for that before posting. I will
let you know what I find.

You can tell Ernie that you aren't the first one to try to buy it - search
back through these newsgroups and you will see other people having tried
earlier to locate him.

Regards
Uffe

(I do have my 6.03 source code luckily)

Ernie replied with the following message:

HyperString source code is still available for purchase here:

Look what the current version is. So far I've seen 6.03 as the latest
version. I have 6.02. See if he can set up an email for us to contact him
for an update.

The saga is not yet over. I paid my money and was supposed to get the
product within 24 hours, according to the regsoft.net acknowledgement email,
but nothing yet. The regsoft.net website still has Ernie's old mindspring
email address so I'm guessing they sent him an email to that address and it
bounced.

I just sent an email to regsoft to see what's up. I also sent one in reply
to the one Ernie sent me but, judging from the domain and name he fixed to
it, he may not monitor it.

Stand by for what comes next ...

I'm not sure what the deal with Regsoft is. They still had the old
mindspring webwsite and email address for HyperStr. I gave them my credit
card number and they told me to email efd at the mindspring address to
"register" my software. I wrote back several times, trying to explain that
that location no longer exists and that I have no software to register.

I finally gave up with them and used that old fashioned telephone again and
called Ernie. He said that's funny about the mindspring address since they
send him stuff from time to time. He sent me a copy of HyperString.

For those who asked, the version is 6.03, (c) 1996-2003.

The saga ends.

Glad you got your copy, it is however curious that he still believes
the address to be valid :)
