After I installed the IE8 beta2 the help system
in Borland Delphi won't work. IE8 complains about
not beeing able to view the page (the page has
and "ms-help:" URL type it seems). How do I fix?

Hi Lars,

Does this happen in IE8 or in a custom Delphi Help viewer?

Test by copy and pasting the ms-help: url into the Address bar of IE8.

We have had a similar question previously about SQL 2005 help and online
help pages. We have already tested the ms-help: protocol.

Please quote your OS version and the name (exe name) and version of the
Delphi help viewer. If I am guessing correctly you may need to add a
FeatureControl entry for the Delphi Help viewer.

Regards.

Same error. Both when Delphi uses it inside it's help browser
and when I paste it it a normal IE8 browser .-(

Windows XP Pro SP3 all patches.

How do I find the help-viewer executable name?

Help viewer name - It should be in the Help>About menu/dialog box.

There should be an entry in your registry (HKCR) for the ms-help protocol
handler. Can you export it and post it back on this thread?

Here is mine from a Vista x86 machine, it should look similar

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ms-help]
@="Microsoft Help ParseDisplayName"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ms-help\CLSID]
@="{314111f7-a502-11d2-bbca-00c04f8ec294}"

Regards.

Inside Borland Delphi then?

When doing a "topic search" I get an "Internet Explorer cannot
download shellexecute.htm from borland.bds3. Unspecified error"

the full utl is
"ms-help://borland.bds3/shellcc/platform/shell/reference/functions/shellexecute.htm"

Is this system dependant on some services or other stuff?

I can't even get the About box open without errors :-)

But it says "Microsoft Document Explorer 7.0" at the bottom.

The entry is there, and looks just like yours...

Hi Lars,

I am using an XP VPC image and do not have the tools to investigate this.
Perhaps someone with XP, Visual Studio and Delphi installed may jump in and
help you.

Does this happen on other help items that you select?

I cannot ping borland.bds3

Have you removed/deleted help files from your computer or is this a fresh
build/copy from another machine clone?

Regards.
