In working with BLOB fields with the MSSQL BDE driver (against MS SQL Server
7), I discovered how the BLOB SIZE BDE setting has a major impact on how I
work with blobs. With the default of 32K, this means that any blob bigger
than that is truncated when I try to store it to the database.

My question is this... does setting this to something large like 10,000 hurt
anything? Does it actually allocate a fixed amount per blob, or is this
setting just a limit on the size a blob can be?

Basically, I'd like to be able to operate without worrying how big my blob
fields get.

Thanks...

This parameter does NOT effect live queries. So if you have a requestlive
query you are not limited to 32K or what the parameter is. See BDE
Administrator help.

PS: One more thing: Do NOT set this value to a very big number because it
will cause your application to raise many many exceptions (I think it uses
some memory depending the value of BLOB SIZE).

Sinan.

I know when I set this value to some big number my app crushed.

RequestLive is not an option for us, but thank you for the suggestion.

Hi Sinan and all,

What is the best size for Blob Size? I have the same problem here.
Thanks.
