1) Whenever I set up a new alias in the BDE administrator, it asks for a
user name in the USER NAME field of the definitions, but no password. Then,
when I click on mý new alias, it asks for the user name and password.
Where is the password defined? If I don't set it, how is it set?
2) Do I actually need Oracle or/and Oracle Dll's installed first in order
to define a new alias for an Oracle Database (or Access for an Access
database)? Following on from 1) above, if I click on an Oracle database
login that I created and enter my user name, but keep the password field
clear (because I don't know the password), I get a Database Engine Error
which specifies "Cannot load an IDAPI service library File:SQLORA32.DLL
Alias:ProcData". I don't know if this is separate or related to the
password issue.
I have looked through my existing help files and documentation, but all to
no avail. I think that this question is too fundamental to answer! Please
help.

Tony Bateman.

Yes you need the Oracle DLLs . the BDE Oracle driver uses these and when you
enter an alias BDE will attempt to verify that it can make the connection.

Thanks for clarifying that point for me.
How then do I set a password in an access database? With any other database
type that is not Paradox or DBase, do I need to set a table password from
within the proprietary software, i.e. is it impossible for the BDE to set
an Access password, for example?
