Is there a library function to read or write the disk label? The
documentation for "readdir" states it should read volume labels but I
haven't been able to figure out how.

Thanks,
Jim

Suspect that's not true for win32.

Looks like volume labels can be gotten with GetVolumeInformation.

in bds2006 help, there's an sdk example for "Enumerating Mount Points"
(referenced under GetVolumeInformation), in which you can substitute 2nd/3rd
parameters to the GetVolumeInformation() call with valid buffer information
(they are NULL/0 in example), and get back the volume label for the volumes
it is processing.
