My name is Paulo, I'm a Delphi Developer from Brazil, and I appreciate
to work with Linux and Wine.

I got a chalange: to make our Win32 Apps to run in Linux under Wine, and
make them open-source.

These applications are ERP systems, built with Delphi 3 + BDE + Paradox,
designed for small companies. We recommend to our customers to use Linux how
dedicated file servers, in order to provide stability. But all client
stations need Windows installed to work. So Linux isn't used in its maximum
power.

Now we are working in new projects using Delphi/Kylix and Firebird SGDB
(not finished yet) to offer a new cross-plataform solution, but we want to
give a contribution to users community, becoming our BDE aplications
open-source under GPL, using Linux as "native" environment, without any use
of Windows. This will change the scenario, giving a chance to growth of
Linux solutions, and open other ways to commercial computing.

As a Wine newbie, I read and tested everything possible, but we have
problems to emulate any application that uses BDE. So, I want to ask you if
is possible to make this work properly, or if we need to abandon the idea.
Do you have any sucessful case, or something similiar? Do you have a "recipe
or a how-to about Delphi + BDE & Wine?

I could install BDE 5.1 without problems and used BdeAdmin to set all
the BDE parameters, but my applications built in Delphi don't work when they
try to activate tables (in BDE initialization). I have the same message from
Database Desktop (native Delphi Application to Access Data throught BDE):
The messages are:

fixme:file:Lockfile not implemented in server
fixme:file:Unlockfile not implemented in server

The aplication raises an exception "No more Files" in a message dialog
box.

How to fix this? Is this a Wine Bug or a Configuration issue? I tried
to run with the last Codeweavers Wine, and with the original Wine in my
Linux Mandrake 8.1 and the problem goes on. If you want any sample code, or
know how our environment are, just ask, I can send the binaries, the source
code and Wine configurations files for you.

I posted in Wine bug-list joining with other bugs related (with same
error message), but until now ee didn't have any answer. If you can help, or
direct me to the right path will be glad. Because the project will be open
source, we don't have budget, just our time to make this functional. I hope
this fact awake your interest to help us :-)

Thanks in advance,
