I'm doing a new install with InstallShield Expres 3.51, and whenever I
install onto a clean machine I keep getting this message 'Unable to merge
new configuration, use BDE Administrator to merge your new configuration.'
... yeah, right! I have looked at the article from Borland (FAQ3727B -
Merging the configuration file has failed
) but this dosn't help and I've looked at the one from InstallShield
(Q100670). I have also tried removing all 'known' references from the
registry, but I can't get the bas***d to work! Even older software, build in
the same way won't work.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful.

Hi Peter,

Every second version of IS sucks badly with its BDE side of things (I
think they forget its there).
Anyway, the only thing I can suggest is maybe the cfg file has the
read only attrtibute set.
Anybody else ?

Leslie.

Hi David,

That goes double here ! I have never had IS fail (since 1.0 - 10
years) with its IDAPI/BDE install ;-)

Did you define an alias with your BDE setup? If you didn't, try that. I
once had this (or a similar) problem with IS5 Professional. Adding an
alias did the trick that time.

Good luck.

I've seen this error. I think it was caused by using an older vesion of
Installshield when I'd updated the BDE to a version beyond the one it
was designed to deliver. I think the installshield site helpd.

Well, I had a typo in my last post. I use IS6.31 with BDE object to
install the BDE. Although the bug fix list states that the BDE could be
installed (via BDE object) without specifying an alias, this didn't work
for me. So I added that alias and all is fine now.
I assume the BDE object from IS6.31 one is also used in InstallShield
Express. That's why I suggested adding the alias. If you have it at
hand, can you post the link to the InstallShield page that contains the
resolution? (Something more than www.installshield.com, of course ;-)
You don't need to search for it. In the end, it's a problem of minor
importance for me.)
