Obviouslyno one wants to give away all those permissions to use Grindr on GOS, but even if granting those permissions got the app working I could still contain it to its own profile and keep it shut down for the majority of the time. That's not an "unwarranted" use case of GOS at all.

I would prefer that people who are on this board, searching for ways to make Grindr work, don't walk away with your idea - that their threat model is of little consequence, their use of GOS unwarranted.

Grindr seems to be working fine for one user (as of last month), not sure if they still use the app but based on their chat history, it seems they've been using it since the beginning of the year without issues. It's common for dating apps to have weird anti-tampering/abuse and bot detection mechanisms. Sounds like that could be the issue with not being able to sign-in, rather than an issue with sandboxed Google Play.

Are you signed in to Grindr on any other devices? If you aren't, try signing in and use the app for a bit and then see if it you can sign in on GrapheneOS. If you are using a VPN, consider turning it off or changing servers to rule out any issues with that.

Since mid-december, the app has been unusable on my device running GOS. The first symptom was that no profile picture would display. Then, I noticed that the Play Store was indicating the app wouldn't work on my device/isn't compatible with it. And it's no longer showing up in Aurora store.

Sometimes a VPN will work ONLY if location is set to your home state or close enough to physical location. That being said, it sometimes doesn't and I generally would whitelist Grindr to bypass my VPN. Unfortunately, however, I do not have my graphene device on me and I cannot recall if you must also whitelist play services, I do not think you have to

Then I'm confused about the reason why it suddenly stopped working properly on my Pixel 6. Knowing the app had not been updated since October, I suppose they couldn't enforce any new system requirement from within the app. That leaves a change in requirements on the Play Store side, but how could this have an effect on the app knowing it wasn't updated recently ?

Or, could this be that since the app was installed by something else than the Play Store (Aurora, anonymous mode), it stopped showing it in the Play Store ? I'm lost. I guess I have to uninstall it, to know. With the risk not to be able to reinstall it but I don't really care now that it became unusable.

You just literally answered your own question. Please go update your app and try again. This is an app among many others that if not updated for a certain amount of time will literally just stop connecting and or working at all. If not to a point. For example. Maybe you can view what's around you but you can't send a received messages

N3rdTek It cannot explain the fact the Play Store indicates "This app won't work for your device". This can't be related to an outdated app. As expected, the app can't be reinstalled, even using a different (fresh) Google account and clearing the Play Store app's storage.

alx this can't explain why that message doesn't show for a freshly installed sandboxed Google Play.

If you have ever partially reinstalled Google Play from the Apps app please 100% completely uninstall ANY and EVERY app(BUT NOT WHAT YOU INSTALLED FROM PLAY STORE) related to the current Sandboxed Google Play installation, reboot, then install it from the Apps app and try again.

N3rdTek Tried that: uninstalled Play Store, Play Services, Services Framework, rebooted the phone, reinstalled them from Apps. Added notification, location (all the time), sensors permissions + unrestricted battery to Play Services. Added notification permission to Play Store. Re-added my google account, opened the Store : the app still "won't work for your device". I'm using a Pixel 6, what is your phone ?

Can an app developer ban a specific device from installing it via the Play Store based on a unique ID of some kind ? Asking because it started while I was travelling. (therefore, with a location mismatched with my IP address)

other8026 I have not flashed GoS onto my replacement device since acquiring it, but it's been less than a month since I've last used it and grindr. I was on a pixel 7, and running stock Pixel 7, I can still access it. If you are able, Make it back up, flash stock, and if you are able to download and access then it is certainly available to the Device as a whole.

To my knowledge, unless it has been changed within the last month, it is not dependent on integrity checks.

N3rdTek Thanks. The impossibility to install the app indeed started less than a month ago. You may have stopped using GOS before this change happened. Already tried to reinstall the Google stuff (as per your earlier advice), no change. I'm not willing to engage in more invasive actions such as flashing my phone just for this app :) I'm pretty sure this is about the device not being "certified" when running GOS. The "support" team never wanted to tell/confirm this, despite my requests about this, which were simply eluded. What a poor customer service.

Grindr still doesn't work even after all the fixes. During the login it says there was a problem connecting with Google Play Services for some reason. I lifted all of the exploits, gave google play services all the required permissions, installed app from google play etc. but it just won't budge. It was working fine few months ago but it suddenly stopped working for some reason.

My husband and I have been sharing a mutual bf for the past 10 months. We are NOT in an open relationship, so outside sex is prohibited. I deleted my Grindr ages ago and don't have any other sex apps or "friends" apps. Our mutual bf is still on grindr for what he says is only "sexting" and "making new friends". At 60 years of age it doesn't really bother me - he's in his 20s, let him flirt. However my 40 year old husband is paranoid about it and keeps trying to catch our bf in the act. He came close, but never managed to find a smoking gun. He even created his own Grindr account to spy on him. So essentially both my husband and my bf are on Grindr, even at times when 3 of us hanging out together and I'm starting to feel like I'm missing out. Should I re-install?

Side note: I found a functioning workaround for all others experiencing this issue.

Uninstall the latest version of Grindr and download and install Grindr 8.11 or lower. Do not update to the newest version. This seems to solve the problem straight away.

The app will not refresh, will not log in, and will not allow messages to send when logged in. Cleared cache, and data, reinstalled and checked all wifi and mobile settings and connections.

I even worked with a help rep via email (which quickly devolved into an "Our technicians will look into the issue")

I tried it on different devices, and the issues occurred on 3 out of 5. I see others posting the same problems recently. Please fix this.

Each build is available to test for up to 90 days, starting from the day the developer uploads their build. You can see how many days you have left for testing under the app name in TestFlight. TestFlight will notify you each time a new build is available and will include instructions on what you need to test. Alternatively, with TestFlight 3 or later, you can turn on automatic updates to have the latest beta builds install automatically.

When the testing period is over, you'll no longer be able to open the beta build. To install the App Store version of the app, download or purchase the app from the App Store. In-app purchases are free only during beta testing, and any in-app purchases made during testing will not carry over to App Store versions.

Note: To automatically download additional in-app content and assets in the background once a beta app is installed in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13, turn on Additional In-App Content in your App Store settings for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

You can send feedback through the TestFlight app or directly from the beta app or beta App Clip by taking a screenshot, and you can report a crash after it occurs. If you were invited to test an app with a public link, you can choose not to provide your email address or other personal information to the developer. Apple will also receive all feedback you submit and will be able to tie it to your Apple ID.

If your device is running an OS earlier than iOS 13 or iPadOS 13, tap Send Beta Feedback to compose an email to the developer. The feedback email contains detailed information about the beta app and about your iOS device. You can also provide additional information, such as necessary screenshots and steps required to reproduce any issues. Your email address will be visible to the developer when you send email feedback through the TestFlight app even if you were invited through a public link.

When you take a screenshot while testing a beta app or beta App Clip, you can send the screenshot with feedback directly to the developer without leaving the app or App Clip Experience. Developers can opt out of receiving this type of feedback, so this option is only available if the developer has it enabled.

When you test beta apps or beta App Clips with TestFlight, Apple will collect and send crash logs, your personal information such as name and email address, usage information, and any feedback you submit to the developer. Information that is emailed to the developer directly is not shared with Apple. The developer is permitted to use this information only to improve their App and is not permitted to share it with a third party. Apple may use this information to improve the TestFlight app and detect and prevent fraud. For more information, visit TestFlight & Privacy.
