Dear All,

Thanks Sherif for setting up the group.  I think the meeting last time was very fruitful and we managed to narrow down the coalition’s objectives to the following two:

1.       Ensuring a transition to a true democratic political system

2.       Ensuring a wide participation in the democratic process

In order to support the achievement of the above two goals we had outlined three deliverables to be worked on simultaneously as follows:

1.       Lobbying for a representative constitution or at least the insertion of a “seventh” point ensuring that the new president is obligated to take the necessary actions to change the constitution once in office. This will be led by Sherif Abdel Wadood

2.       Arranging a convention which allows all opposition groups to have a united front to ensure that the goals of the revolution are maintained and to allow each group to publicize what they stand for. This will be led by Hisham Akram

3.       Educating the public in terms of what democracy means, what the constitution means, the different forms of government, how to elect a president or a member of parliament…etc. As I understood it the group represented by Safa Khater has already started doing this and therefore will be led by them

I believe that all three projects require volunteers to bring them to fruition so if anyone is interested please contact the project leaders. In addition we need each of the project leaders to outline their plans for the execution of each project and the timeline if relevant.  Accordingly I suggest we have a meeting on Tuesday March 1st at 8pm.

I would also encourage all members to get as many people involved in this coalition as possible. As a first step please forward this email to members of your respective groups as well as the email sent by Sherif Barakat to allow them to join the Borgasy coalition and have more volunteers working on each project.

Cheers,

Tarek

Hi everyone,

My name is Tito (Yahia Elkachab).  I already know some of you, looking forward to meeting the rest.

These are good clear objectives that will allow for a lot of common ground from others.  In terms of the steps.  For Educating the Public, have you discussed yet the target audience(s) and priorities?

Thanks

Tito

Hi Everyone,

For whomever is the coordinator of this google group, if you could please add Marwan Al Ashaal king...@yahoo.com

In relation to the public awareness project, I think this is very important and I believe we need to have some sort of organization on this. I believe we agreed Saffa would be the group coordinator. Saffa - I had a call from another organization (NGO) today who are working on exactly the same project (train the trainer public awareness campaign) and I told them that members of our group have a great deal of professional experience on this and that you should join forces. He was very receptive and very much welcomed the idea. Perhaps you could give him a call? His name is Ahmed Salah and his number is 010 3144 056. They also said that they want to mobilize a lot of media coverage for this event so that it will have more outreach, which I think it absolutely necessary. I think the media element is vital for any initiative we want to seriously succeed, so perhaps we can all have a think of it before our next meeting and see who we have contacts with and who we can/should develop contacts with for the future in order to have maximum input.

One last thing that came across my mind - I am hopeful this coalition will spread, but before that happens on a wide scale and the name Borgasy starts to stick, I think it is important to ensure the name doesn't have any negative connotations. Any thoughts on this?

I'm in for the next meeting at the proposed time. What about venue?

Thanks,

Aly

Dear all,

Thanks Sherif for setting up the group, and many thanks to the whole group for such fruitful initiatives.

Sorry for not replying earlier, as I was a bit busy past couple of days.

Regarding the 3rd initiative “Educating the public”, please refer to the group members:

Maha Hindawy                      mhin...@gmail.com

Lamia El Sadek                     (will provide shortly)

Sherif, would you please add the emails to the Google group

Will make sure, hopefully ISA, to have representatives from the group attending next Tuesday’s meeting to discuss the project outline, scope and plan, and merge our efforts and other similar initiatives as possible.

Best of luck to all of us,

Safa

Hello Aly,

Thank you so much for sharing the info of the NGO. Hopefully, we could merge efforts together to get the maximum benefit.

Regarding the current "educating the public" initiative, the group is planning to use media, press, banners, and train the trainer, .. etc as different means to deliver the training. It will be discussed in more details in our next meeting ISA

I have already forwarded your mail to them, so I expect they would contact Ahmed Salah, as soon as they are available.
Please let me know if I could be of any other help

Thank you,
Safa

I am confirmed for the meeting.

There are two things I would like to bring to everybody's attention:

1. There is another meeting on Tuesday at 5 pm at the Jesuit School's Theater Hall. This is a meeting where about 10 other groups will be present. We will be sending one or two from our group to report back and potentially connect. I suggest either each group send their own reps if interested or, alternatively, we can let you know at the meeting what these other groups are about.

2. I agree with whoever suggested an agenda. I have a few items to suggest in order to focus our energies:

a) A name for the coalition
b) Discuss status of political awareness campaign (If Safa could take the lead on this)
c) Discuss our views on the proposed constitutional amendments and whether they are acceptable or not
d) Discuss whether people are happy with the new government and, if not, what our combined strategy is to demand its dissolution
e) Strategy for holding a convention
f) Organizational structure/committees within the coalition in order to be more effective/coordinated

Perhaps if you can discuss the above points with your respective groups before attending the meeting on Tuesday, it would be helpful in order to have a more concrete foundation for taking forward agreed action plans/projects.

All,

I think the last meeting was very productive. We come up with the following plans to further our two of our action points:

1.       The awareness team are meeting on Saturday at 7pm at DLA’s offices in Garden City to start assigning roles for the awareness campaign. Any volunteers interested in working with them are welcome to join the meeting

2.       The Convention team will share the document they developed which discusses the format, blueprint and procedures for the convention and will send an email with the time and place for the meeting to discuss the convention action plan.

Thanks Sherif for setting up the group.  I think the meeting last time was very fruitful and we managed to narrow down the coalition’s objectives to the following two:

1.       Ensuring a transition to a true democratic political system

However we need to limit the meetings to the people who were there last time to make them manageable.

Please join the google group that Sherif Barakat set up as it will be easier to communicate via the Google group.

Cheers,
