Can I record what I hear from the speakers with cool edit 2000?
My other computer has a loopback feature in the sound card, and I can record what I hear out of the speakers with any recording program. For some reason, I thought cool edit 2000 could record what I hear... is this possible? I can't seem to find a manual to help me...

Looking for an alternative to Cool Edit Pro which is a sound editing software for Windows that can do a lot for sound. Any tool in Ubuntu that helps me edit sound, channels, etc.. as close or advance as Cool Edit Pro is or similar programs.

When we are working we have 20-30 files in WAV from recorded, than we are copying them to program (it was so far Cool Edit Pro)
than we had a list like on the screen in my post. From this list I can simply choose what i want to edit, then when it is ready (3,4,5 files chosen) insert it
to a timeline and make a multitrack audition export on mp3 and ready.

this is extremly not comfortable, inserting all in timeline is not a resolution so i wrote. only way is to insert all files in one audacity, than open second audacity and than i can make it similar to cool edit pro multitrack.

I have had exactly the same experience. I know Cool edit is a long time ago, but the fact is I did buy it and I resent being unable to activate something I legally own. Given that Adobe bought this software from Syntrillium then changed the name to Audition, I think they have a duty of care to past owners.

I received a copy of ce2kreg.exe from Altitune (for which I am very grateful) and everything now works fine and my copy of Cool Edit 2000 is no longer on a 30-day trial and registered to me. Altitune and I exchanged emails about how we could make the file easily available to others without having to administer a process of messaging, then emailing, etc. We tried Box and Drop Box but I couldn't create a truly public folder with access to any user, so we are stuck for now. Does anyone else have any suggestions on how we could create a repository somewhere for this file with open access to it for anyone who wants it? The registration software itself is of no use to anyone who doesn't have a proper registration key.

You should be able to share it via Dropbox. Just upload the file into the Public folder that should be created in your Dropbox by default. The you will still need to get a link to share the file with anybody else. Click on the tree dots to the right of the file name and Share. Then from the window that opens click on Copy Link and paste the link into another reply here or other peoples emails.

I have gone a step further and copied the installation files for Cool Edit 2000, the plug-ins for Studio, Noise Reduction, DirectX support, a 1 page installation instruction and a copy of a short manual for Cool Edit 2000 (created by Cleveland State University back in 2007) into a Drop Box public folder here:

I've done this because I had a hell of a job finding any of these files on the Internet and when I did find them I could not be sure that the sites were to be trusted. I don't think that I have loaded the full set and I think there is at least one more plug-in (the Equalizer) around but I don't have a copy of it and cannot find it. If anyone has a copy then let me know and I will upload it.

For all of the plug-ins apart from the DirectX support one you will need to have your original license information to activate the software during the installation process. Once again we are not breaking licensing rules, just making the files available for licensed users who have mislaid their original files to get access to the installation files.

The answer seemed to be yes. I made a .reg file to capture those two additional registry entries on the other computer; sneakered it over to the troubled machine; double-clicked on the .reg file to run it; and now Cool Edit was willing to run.

I have no idea if that .reg file will fix your problem, destroy your computer, or burn your house down. Use at your own risk. I can only say that, so far, running it on the troubled computer seems to have fixed the problem, at least for the time being.

Another way to proceed would have been to restore or at least mount an image backup of the troubled system (I use AOMEI Backupper) and go poking around in there for the missing registry keys. That way, I would have had the correct .reg edits for this machine. I just copied them over from the other computer because that was faster. I had System Restore and .adi images to fall back on if this trashed my system. Hopefully everyone knows by now to have a system backup before messing with the registry.

RonKelly1 seemed to say that he was able to fix the Cool Edit trial version problem on his Win10 system by copying over the C:\Program Files (x86)\Cool2000 folder from a Win8 system. Cool Edit was working and properly registered on the Win8 system; it was installed and registered but still working only as a trial on the Win10 system; but overwriting that nonworking Cool2000 folder on the Win10 machine with the working Cool2000 folder from the Win8 machine fixed the Win10 installation. Sad to say, this did not work for me, bringing over that folder from a working Cool Edit installation on another Win10 system. Even after re-running the registration file, it remained in trial mode. Possibly it would have worked if, like him, I had been bringing over that folder from a prior version of Windows, instead of from another Win10 machine.

The good news would be that, once I got Cool Edit working in the VM (even in a type 2 hypervisor like VMware Player. I would be able to run it (and any other legacy programs I wished to install in the VM) forevermore, as long as Windows or Linux or somebody supported my type 2 hypervisor. Park the VM in an external SSD and it might be both fast and portable. The existing Cool Edit installation could also provide non-Win10 program files for use in some of the fixes discussed above. This may become the preferred solution for those who find that Win10 continues to create problems for Cool Edit.

Hi thank you very much for this forum. Selecting your advice to Run As Administrator worked! I set the properties to run CoolEdit 2000 as Administrator automatically and it works perfectly. Problem solved ?

I did read these steps somewhere on the internet, and I think a 19 step outline for those wanting to record with Cool Edit Pro is something that would be useful for all that want to have a really easy and direct how to guide. Let me say, that I have used Cool Edit Pro on the editing functions before, but until last evening NEVER as my main recording place.

3. Hit the record button, which is obviously the red dot button (commonly known) in the lower left corner of operating buttons. Let the tape preroll (recording) run a blank spot for like 10-20 seconds if possible.

5. Take your mouse, click once in the middle gray bold line that separates your left/right channel. This will but a yellow dotted line there, hold and drag to the left and highlight your tape preroll blank section. This should highlight the whole area (left/right channels) white.

This file should be more then good enough to do further editing, sequencing, etc. I personally use Sonar to do my sequencing, and in the past used it to record everything I ever have recorded on my own. Just obviously import the file into whatever sequencer you are comfortable with.

In the past, all I have ever really used Cool Edit Pro was for AFTER the .wav file was done. In other words post production stuff. Recording with it is so simple, that you can I believe create at the very least some great Podcasts with it; at least Technically Speaking.

bro every time i record on a track it automaticly mixs all previouse tracks together so track 2 contains tracks 1 and 2 track 3 contains tracks 1 2 and 3 and so on
any advice ? pc based cool edit pro CHEERS

Thank you very very very very much man really helped out with the recordings, before i had my head smashed against the wall 99999999 times cause i couldnt figure out how to reduce sound. all works PERFECT now styll.
thanks again!

I have just tried to do it again and I cannot figure out what is wrong. The sound comes through on my computer but CE does not record anything. The audio lines (squiggly lines that show sound, not sure what they are called) do not even show up when the sound is coming through on the line in.

I did the device order thing and I have levels at the bottom of the screen, so CEP is getting something, but nothing shows up in the edit screen so there is nothing to edit but several minutes of blank space.

By accident, I learned the solution to the problem: the input jack was TOO FAR in. If I have it in most of the way instead of all of the way, I get a recording. I worry that a vibration or jostle during a recording will knock it out, but for now it works. What a stupid and unreliable solution!

hi guys
