What conditions do you have to fulfill to be able to practice in East Africa Region? Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi?
  • Statutory requirements. (eg. is it necessary to partner with a local firm?)
  • Taxation
  • Professional codes of conduct (any differences with ours?)
  • Forms of contract: JBC etc...

Consider 2008 Paper 2 Q3:

You have been awarded a Project in Tanzania:
i) Explain in detail the options that are available for practicing in Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi?

ii) What steps would you go through to register a branch of your firm in those countries?

iii) What aspects would you consider in designing at Arusha?

one architect mwacharo put posted the questions below at the end of his power point presentation (attached) during the candidates seminar. would be sad if they actually appeared in the exam after u ignored this post :-)

Questions

1.The title of the examination you are about to write contains the word ‘professional’. What do you understand the word to mean?
2.What are the potential advantages, to himself and to the general public of an architect or quantity surveyor: (a) registering with BORAQS (b) becoming a member of AAK.
3.Your practice has been appointed architects for a day clinic. A fixed fee has been negotiated with client. Briefly describe the procedures/controls that you would institute to monitor the cost of producing the necessary design and technical documentation and administering the contract to ensure that the practice makes a profit on the project.
4.Under what circumstance would you recommend to a client to use  JBC Agreement Forms? What is a minor works agreement and when would you use it?

Hey,

The office would operate on the project on a time basis. The project stages would be broken into the various stages, and the sum per stage allocated to itself as per the cap 525 breakdown. Based on this, every consultant in the office would be dedicated their respective times on the same and hours per stage generated. Thus creating a time/ cost effective project. Further, a contingency of 10% could be added.

Further the project would have a fixed limit to site meetings allocated to it.

:D
