Onthe starting screen, I wanna be able to edit out only some of the recent files. Right-click on a file thumb > Hide from Recent > Done. As simple as how the web browser's blank page displays and organizes frequently visit sites. Often there're only a few files I'd rather not to show there than to show.

I agree. If the program is designed to show thumbnails of recent files when it's opened, the user should have a simple option to clear those thumbnails. Photoshop has it, and probably some other Adobe apps as well, so why not Illustrator? More broadly speaking, it'd be nice to have this as a standard feature across Adobe apps.

An option to clear away the 'Recent Items' tab that opens when you're going to create a new document, some dimensions / templates I won't ever need to use again and they just clog space on the interface

All of your personal information, including email address, name, and IP address will be deleted from this site. Any feedback you have provided that others have supported will be attributed to "Anonymous". All of your ideas without support will be deleted.

Did you have a document window open when making your changes? Any changes to the preferences that need to be global should be made without an open document. Then, as you have already been doing, you should quit the program after the changes have been made and anything that is actually controlled by the preference file should now be part of the preferences globally when the program is reopened.

I did not have any Illustrator documents open when I made this post. Just to be sure, I tried again. This time I closed every single application on Mac, restarted my computer and tried again with only Illustrator open and no documents and the same issue occurred.

Good to know and just as an FYI, I did this exact same process in inDesign and it 'stuck'. All of the recent files were cleared when I set to 0 and changed back to 20. When I restarted inDesign, the 20 files did not return.

Is this a recent thing. I've done it many times over the years (since 1989 in fact) and it always worked to save whatever alterations that I'd made to my preferences. Is it possible that the same would have happened had I had a document open?

I would not say my interest in doing so is imperative or urgent, but probably something Adobe could address as a bug, since it works exactly the same on indesign and not even available as an option in some Of the CC apps.

I agree that it would be nice if it worked the way it does in InDesign. If you want the Illustrator team to see it, the correct way is to fill out a feature request or bug report form. You can do this from the Help menu, I am pretty sure. (I am on my iPad right now.) They read everything that comes in that way.

If you don't change preferences very often, you could save a copy of the preferences file with the clean file list and just copy it back over whenever you want to clear recent files - it would be easier than doing the above steps every time. At least until Adobe deems it a problem worthy of putting a "Clear Recent File List" button on the Home screen!

I've been looking for that solution since a very long time. You're a genius!!! The only and, obviously, main reason we sometimes wanna clear recent files is the fact we're re-organizing our files, either by changing their names or folders where they were originally saved on. I just can't believe Adobe put a "Clear recent files" option on Photoshop and didn't it on Illustrator. Such an absurd!

Right? Photoshop has had a "Clear Recent File List" option under File > Open for a LONG time now, while Illustrator has been missing it for 5+ years. It'd be nice if Adobe would focus on improving/finishing their existing features, rather than releasing a buggy new version every year with features that the overwhelming majority of users won't even use. I'm not at all surprised by any of this, but am continuously amazed by Adobe's incompetence as an "iNdUsTrY lEaDeR".

Sorry to hear about this experience and for the late response. Illustrator currently does not have this functionality. Would you mind upvoting this UserVoice ( -illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/432...) and adding your comments there? Doing this will help us prioritize this feature request, and you will keep getting all the related updates.

Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign feature the Start workspace that lets you quickly access your recent files and files stored in Creative Cloud. Within this workspace, you may also have access to various resources tailored for your requirements. You can also search for Adobe Stock assets from within this workspace. In Photoshop, you can even work with your Lightroom photos in the Start workspace.

You can search from millions of high-quality, royalty-free images, illustrations, and vector graphics in the Adobe Stock search bar located at the lower panel in the Work mode. For more information, see Using Adobe Stock.

So we have these scratch files that keeps on coming back in our project folders (file server). Is there away to delete them permanently? We delete then every time the window gets refreshed, it appears again. The file size is also an issue because it's the same size as the project files (pln & mod).

This is a folder in our local server--not on cloud, just in the local area network. But I will inform our IT...so there's no solution to this? There's no way to remove these scratch files? It's taking up prime real estate in our project folder.

Yeah, should be. That's why me and our IT are finding this issue weird. We tried closing Archicad then deleting the files but they keep on appearing again after refresh. Will try deleting the files using as server admin log in and see if that sorts it out. Thanks for your reply Barry.

If you've been using Adobe Photoshop and you don't want to leave your recent work visible on the opening Home page when you launch the app, you have a few options for clearing the list or hiding it. We'll show you how.

And that's all it takes. Your recent file list has been erased, and you'll no longer see the files you've recently opened in the File menu or on the "Home" screen when you first open Photoshop. But new files will still be added to the list when you open them. If you want to fix that, see the section below.

As you've seen above, it's easy to clear the Recent File List in Photoshop. But if you open more files after that, you'll see them in the list again. To get rid of the Recent File List---and hide the recent files from the "Home" screen, click "Edit" in the menu bar. Next, select Preferences, then choose "File Handling" in the menu.

After that, click "OK," and Photoshop will save your changes and close the Preferences window. From now on, you'll no longer see the list of recently opened files in the File menu or on the Home screen.

But be aware: Photoshop still keeps track of recently-opened files, even if you don't see them listed. If you change "Recent File List Contains" to another number other than 0, you'll see recently opened files again.
