Shakespear snorkeling

I've recently found out about a shipwreck at Shakespear Regional Park and I'm keen to go on an adventure and have a look!! Please come and join me : )

The shipwreck is between Okoromai Bay and Te Haruhi Bay

If you'd like to carpool please arrange this yourself

Bring:

- wetsuit (optional but recommended)

- mask and snorkel

- flippers

- underwater camera (if you own one)

- warm clothes for afterwards

- footwear to walk to snorkeling site

- snacks / drink

- sunblock etc

- sense of adventure

- best pirate accent arrrrrgh

High tide is 2:53pm. I've never snorkeled here. I don't know the degree of snorkeling ability required. If you are confident in the water and have experience snorkeling you should be fine. We will buddy swim to help make safer.

Thank you to Anita for finding this info from last time "The SS Wainui is easily accessible and the deepest point is only four metres, so snorkeling gear is sufficient. Described as a fun dive, with the chance to explore the stern section and see the large numbers of fish that gather there, at close range.

Further offshore, and totally submerged, the SS Kakapo is a more traditional shipwreck dive, which requires scuba diving gear and has a number of interesting crevices and tunnels that divers can swim through."

Shakespear is a large park with lots to explore. You're welcome to come if you don't want to snorkel.

If conditions aren't great for snorkeling we'll walk one of the tracks. We'll make a decision when we get there.
