Thank you Amanda for organising another amazing looking walk!!!

Winter wonderland?…… well, maybe not, but it’s still the chilly season, and what better way to warm up than with a weekend day walk!

It’s hard to contemplate a summit walk that would be anywhere quite as eyebrow raising as the last, but you never know…... (see pic at end of email!!)

So….. if you fancy the following- please come along!

When? Saturday August 14th

Where will we walk?  The Hakarimata Summit Track, 1 km north of Ngaruawahia, Waikato.

What’s it all about?! It is a 335 metre climb to the summit with 1,349 steps. The track meets the Hakarimata Walkway and the summit tower at 374 metres above sea level. You can enjoy good views for the summit tower out towards the coast, across the Waikato Basin and down to Ruapehu.

Rated as “easy” on the doc website- it’s a 2km, 3 hour walk (return).

Where will we meet for carpooling?  At City Impact church carpark.  (https://goo.gl/maps/Ew6HfiekQTcQyCCQ7) This is in Sylvia Park.  It’s within the group of shops on the opposite side of the road to the main mall.  Spotlight is a good general landmark, as is Torpedo 7.  Once in that vicinity, look for the Coffee Club cafe.  As you’re facing the cafe, drive to the left of it and down the side. You’re there!  We can arrange car pooling from here.

When will we meet?  09.20am, aiming to leave at 09.30

If I want to get there myself- where will I go?!

  • The Hakarimata Summit Track is accessed via the Waterworks Walk. The Waterworks Walk starts on Brownlee Avenue, off Hakarimata Road, approx. 1 km north of Ngaruawahia.  Brownlee Ave is approximately 1 hour 15 from Sylvia Park. (https://goo.gl/maps/F4x34pi8UHqE7VfLA)

Sorry dog lovers- no dogs permitted :-(

What to bring?  The usuals- gear for ALL seasons, hat/ cap included.  Packed lunch, water, snacks.  We’ll eat lunch at the top, weather permitting (there was no way THAT was happening last week!)

And then?  After the walk we will stop en route back for cofffeeeeee!!! Maybe even TWICE.  Venue(s) TBC.

(And, just for interest, the Hakarimata Walkway itself (that the Hakarimata Summit Track is part of) is 12 km one way (7 hours 30 mins).  Walking the length of this Walkway in the Hakarimata Range allows enjoyment of excellent views towards the coast and across the Waikato Basin.  Maybe another day?!)

Any queries on the day, please text me on 020 41924654 (not voicemail)……

I am assuming there will be reception there…….

Bring it on.

Amanda

"Well the weather looks phenomenal and it's all on for tomorrow! Looking forward to a fun day out: what could be better: exercise, sun, catching up, and coffee :-)
See you at the car pool spot in the morning!"
