NB: This is Amanda's event, posting on her behalf : )

It’s winter!  Time to smash out a good walk!

Enjoy the views from the summit of Mount William, just south of the Bombay Hills.

The Mt William Walkway is near Mangatawhiri, approximately 50 km south of Auckland City, on the Waikato side of the Bombay Hills.  Join me to experience this gem.

When: Sat July 17th.  10.30am meet time.

Meet point: in the car park on McMillan Rd, off Irish Rd, which is off SH2.

(Google Maps Link: https://goo.gl/maps/YG9oaBxmL7J3gKLVA)

Toilets: the map indicates that there are toilets after the carpark, just before the track proper begins.  I have also read a review that stated that such promised facility was not actually present…… so it just might be wise to consider bringing some paper and a sealable plastic bag…………

The tramp itself looks phenomenal, albeit possibly a touch muddy.  If debating over shoes vs boots- I’d say definitely go for the boot option :-)

From the McMillan Road carpark, it’s an approx 3 hour /5 km walk return.  The plan will be to summit and have lunch at the top, weather permitting.

The track follows a farm fence line with markers to the Mount William Scenic Reserve. The reserve hosts a wide variety of native trees and shrubs, including kauri, hard beech and king ferns. From the Mount William summit (373 m) there are expansive views to the West Coast and Firth of Thames.

nb: you’ll need reasonable fitness for this summit. The track will be mostly unformed, rough, and steep. There looks like some serious wooden stair climbing included that will get that heart rate up. Awesome!

What to bring:  water, and more water.  A packed lunch and snacks.  Suggest a warm hat, thermals, rainwear.  A sense of adventure!  Funds to purchase that all important reward after the walk: cooffeeee!!

Sorry dog lovers, dogs are not permitted on this track.

Coffee will be enjoyed after the walk at: Urban Soul, Karaka (71 Hingaia Road, Karaka- just a minute off the Drury offramp as you go back up north again) ph: 09 2167973

Please organise your own carpooling, or get in touch with me and I’ll try to link you in with someone else close by to where you live.

Any queries on the day- please text me on 020 41924654 (not voicemail)……

I am assuming there will be reception there……. but there may not be….

Hope to see you soon!

Amanda :-)

Oops the information should have been for this walk, sorry for any confusion!

Here's the info again!

Well, the weather looks interesting for tomorrow's walk!
So we'll need to follow rule number 5 :-)
The walk will go ahead as planned at this stage; it looks like there'll be more rain in the afternoon than the morning, so if we get a good timely start we'll likely be free of getting drenched!
If, when we meet, it's actually atrocious, I have an (indoor) Plan B.
It look s to be working up to about 18 degrees so you won't be cold, especially when walking: but do bring your wet weather gear!
Let's go make some memories!
