My district is slowly moving from Windows tablets to Chromebooks and so we are sort of revisiting apps and extensions that we have toyed with over the years and trying to clean up shop.

For my current Bookshare users who are only accessing books on the web via Web reader -  do I need to have the Chrome extension installed still if we're using the Chrome browser or does it just happen automatically now?

Hi Sandra. You no longer have to install the Chrome extension for Bookshare Web Reader. You just give your students access to books, and they use the “Read Now” button to open a book in the Bookshare Web Reader.

Here’s a video about Bookshare Web Reader that you might find helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLkZMeGVN_U

thanks - when Web Reader first came out we were required to install the Chrome extension and also encourage to install a couple additional higher quality voice extensions

That extension has since been pushed to our students automatically via our Google Dashboard. So we can stop doing that?
That is what I want to conform because the extension is still available in the Google Chrome Web Store

What about the Voice extensions - not longer needed either?

thanks

The Bookshare Web Reader extension in Chrome is no longer required (and in fact sometimes causes problems if it is enabled).

I believe you still need to have the high quality voice extension enabled.
