HI, many of my students often forget Bookshare usernames and passwords. That information is often lost during transitions to new case managers as well. Often, parents do not recall student Bookshare passwords, and often have trouble resetting passwords.
Is it possible to delete an original Bookshare account, then reenroll them in a new bookshare account, where teachers/case managers can reset passwords?
I understand the benefit of individual accounts (downloading books on their own), however this benefit doesn't seem to be worth it due to the number of issues I have ever year. Thanks to all responses.

I have had to do that when the parents won’t respond to requests.  I try to keep a spread sheet of passwords issued but again with changing casemanagers that doesn’t always work.

Funny this topic came up. I am a para for the school district that I work for. I approached this same topic to my supervising teacher. About creating a spreadsheet with the students usernames and passwords. At least for the VI students who teachers are a handful. Their reply on why they were not sure on wanting to do this. Specially with individual accounts. It was because what if the student forgot their password, then we wouldn't have access to the password. If the student went ahead and changed it during the year and didn't let the teacher know. So at least with the blind and low vision students of my district. Individual accounts for students. Aren't being pushed. Having the students missing out on a full BookShare experience. So, I'll be following this thread. Hoping a reasonable solution can be provided from the BookShare staff. Which will give the students. Full benefits and experience on having an individual account.

I created a spreadsheet for the same purpose in Google Sheets.  Google locked me out of my access to it because I was “collecting” passwords.  Just a warning to those using Google.

Hi, thanks for the responses so far, I too have created spreadsheets, but it's getting harder to manage district-wide as we are now correctly identifying students with print disabilities. Additionally, if they have individual accounts, they sometimes change those passwords and forget.....
I'm thinking about deleting a large portion of students with individual accounts, then creating an organizational account for them, so teachers can reset those passwords when students forget.

If they have a linked account and they forgot the password I refer the matter to the parents.  It will be to their email that a recovery email will be sent.  When they question, I send a screenshot of the message I see limiting my access  This usually works since it is the more involved tech savvy parents who take advantage of the individual accounts.

Thanks, all, for your passion and feedback. Just to make sure we’re all on the same page here, there are two ways that students can login and access books:

1)     Teachers can assign student logins to students on school accounts. In this case, teachers are setting the students’ user names and passwords, teachers can easily see the user names on the students’ dashboards, and teachers can reset the passwords easily if necessary. With these login credentials, students can access only the books that have been shared with them by teachers, via Reading Lists.

2)     Teachers can then help students get individual memberships connected with their school accounts. These require parent approval, and the user name must be an actual email address. As long as they (or their parents, or teachers) remember what email address they use as their user name, students can use the Forgot Password link to reset their passwords if they forget them.

This is why we usually start a student off with an organizational account because you have the option to set the username and also reset the password whenever you need to.

I always say to myself that if a family is involved with the reading at home or a kid is really a crazy reader and wants to search on their own, or they are getting close to transitioning out of high school  -> then I bumped him up to an Individual account knowing I will lose control of the password.

Hi yes , after posting this some time ago, I only provide an individual account to the student profiles that Sandra mentioned. This has resolved all of my previous issues. I would never recommend an individual account until a student is amped on Bookshare, uses it daily, or is about to transition out.
