Hi Sandra and others. Yes, you can create a link to a specific Bookshare book. Each book has a unique ID number that will appear in the URL that appears when you select a book.
So for example, I used Advanced Search to search for an English Language Arts textbook for 9th grade. From the list of results, I selected a book for which this is the full URL:
But of that URL, the only part you really need to navigate to that specific book is the highlighted portion below. So you can use this URL to navigate to that book:
https://www.bookshare.org/browse/book/1692842
Basically after “browse/book” will always follow the unique ID of the book (which in this case is 1692842). As long as your URL includes those components, students and sponsors should be able to reach that specific book. I hope that helps.
Christine

Benetech doesn’t have a problem with providing a direct link to a Bookshare book (I actually included instructions to do so in my response to Sandra’s post). Someone who isn’t a Bookshare member won’t be able to do anything with the book because doing so requires being logged in (unless the book is “freely available,” meaning it’s not copyrighted).

Yes, good point – if the student has only an organization account (student login to the school account), the book will need to have been shared with him/her on a Reading List in order for the student to be able to either download the book or open it in Bookshare Web Reader (using the “Read Now” button) when selecting the book’s unique URL. But at least if they have the book’s unique URL, the student doesn’t have to go into their Reading Lists, then into the specific Reading List, to find that specific book.
